Mark 14
International Standard Version Help
14Now it was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to arrest Jesus secretly and to have him put to death,G1161G1417G2250G2258G3957G2532G3326G106G2532G749G2532G1122G2212G4459G2902G846G1722G1388G615
2because they kept saying, "This must not happen during the festival. Otherwise, there'll be a riot among the people."G1161G3004G3361G1722G1859G3379G2071G2351G2992
3While Jesus was in Bethany sitting at the table in the home of Simon the leper, a woman arrived with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume on his head.G2532G846G5607G1722G963G1722G3614G4613G3015G846G2621G2064G1135G2192G211G3464G3487G4101G4185G2532G4937G211G2708G2596G846G2776
4Irritated, some who were there asked one another, "Why was the perfume wasted like this -G1161G2258G5100G23G4314G1438G2532G3004G1519G5101G1096G3778G684G3464G1096
5This perfume could have been sold for more than30 0 denarii and the money given to the destitute." So they got extremely angry with her.4G1063G5124G1410G4097G1883G5145G1220G2532G1325G4434G2532G1690G846
6But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me,G1161G2424G2036G863G846G863G5101G2873G3930G846G2038G2570G2041G1519G1691
7because you will always have the destitute with you and can help them whenever you want, but you will not always have me.G1063G2192G4434G3326G1438G3842G2532G3752G2309G1410G4160G846G2095G1161G1691G2192G3756G3842
8She has done what she could. She poured perfume on my body in preparation for my burial.G4160G3739G3778G846G2192G4301G3462G3450G4983G1519G1780
9I tell you with certainty, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her."G281G3004G5213G3699G302G5124G2098G2784G1519G3650G2889G2532G3739G3778G846G4160G2980G1519G3422G846
10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the high priests to betray Jesus to them.G2532G2455G2469G1520G1427G565G4314G749G2443G3860G846G846
11After they had listened to him, they were delighted and promised to give him money. So he began to look for a good opportunity to betray him.G1161G191G5463G2532G1861G1325G846G694G2532G2212G4459G2122G3860G846
12On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, Jesus' disciples asked him, "Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover meal?"G2532G4413G2250G106G3753G2380G3957G846G3101G3004G846G4226G2309G565G2090G2443G5315G3957
13He sent two of his disciples, telling them, "Go into the city, and you will meet a man carrying a jug of water. Follow him.G2532G649G1417G846G3101G2532G3004G846G5217G1519G4172G2532G528G5213G444G941G2765G5204G190G846
14When he goes into a house, say to its owner that the Teacher asks, 'Where is my room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?'G2532G3699G1437G1525G2036G3617G3754G1320G3004G4226G2076G2646G3699G5315G3957G3326G3450G3101
15Then he will show you a large upstairs room that is furnished and ready. Get everything ready for us there."G2532G846G1166G5213G3173G508G4766G2092G1563G2090G2254
16So the disciples left and went into the city. They found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.G2532G846G3101G1831G2532G2064G1519G4172G2532G2147G2531G2036G846G2532G2090G3957
17When evening came, Jesus arrived with his twelve disciples.G2532G1096G3798G2064G3326G1427
18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, "I tell you with certainty, one of you is going to betray me, one who is eating with me."G2532G846G345G2532G2068G2424G2036G281G3004G5213G3754G1520G1537G5216G3588G2068G3326G1700G3860G3165
19They began to be very sad and asked him, one after the other, "Surely I am not the one, am I?"G1161G756G3076G2532G3004G846G1527G3385G1473G2532G243G3385G1473
20He said to them, "It's one of you twelve men, the one who is dipping his bread into the bowl with me.G1161G611G2036G846G1520G1537G1427G1686G3326G1700G1519G5165
21For the Son of Man is going away, just as it has been written about him, but how terrible it will be for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for him if he had never been born."G5207G444G3303G5217G2531G1125G4012G846G1161G3759G1565G444G1223G3739G5207G444G3860G2570G2258G1565G444G1487G846G1080G3756G1080
22While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and handed it to them, saying, "Take some. This is my body."G2532G846G2068G2424G2983G740G2127G2806G2532G1325G846G2532G2036G2983G5315G5124G2076G3450G4983
23Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it.G2532G2983G4221G2168G1325G846G2532G3956G4095G1537G846
24He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant that is being poured out for many people.G2532G2036G846G5124G2076G3450G129G2537G1242G3588G1632G4012G4183
25I tell you with certainty, I will never again drink this wine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."G281G3004G5213G3364G4095G3754G3765G1537G1081G288G2193G1565G2250G3752G4095G846G2537G1722G932G2316
26After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.G2532G5214G1831G1519G3735G1636
27Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will turn against me, because it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'G2532G2424G3004G846G3754G3956G4624G1722G1722G1698G5026G3571G3754G1125G3960G4166G2532G4263G1287
28However, after I have been raised, I will go to Galilee ahead of you."G235G3326G3165G1453G4254G5209G1519G1056
29But Peter said to him, "Even if everyone else turns against you, I certainly won't."G1161G4074G5346G846G2532G1487G3956G4624G235G3756G1473
30Jesus said to him, "I tell you with certainty, today, this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."G2532G2424G3004G846G281G3004G4671G3754G4594G1722G5026G3571G4250G2228G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151
31But Peter kept saying emphatically, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!" And all the others kept saying the same thing.G1161G3004G3123G1537G4053G1437G3165G1163G4880G4671G3364G533G4571G3364G5615G1161G2532G3004G3956
32Then they came to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit down here while I pray."G2532G2064G1519G5564G3739G3686G1068G2532G3004G846G3101G2523G5602G2193G4336
33He took Peter, James, and John along with him, and he began to feel distressed and troubled.G2532G3880G3326G1438G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G756G1568G2532G85
34So he said to them, "I am deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Wait here and stay awake."G2532G3004G846G3450G5590G2076G4036G2193G2288G3306G5602G2532G1127
35Going on a little farther, he fell to the ground and kept praying that if it were possible the hour might pass from him.G2532G4281G3397G4098G1909G1093G2532G4336G2443G1487G2076G1415G5610G3928G575G846
36He kept repeating, "Abba! Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I want but what you want."G2532G3004G5G3962G3956G1415G4671G3911G5124G4221G575G1700G235G3756G5101G1473G2309G235G5101G4771
37When he went back, he found his disciples asleep. "Simon, are you asleep?" he asked Peter. "You couldn't stay awake for one hour, could you -G2532G2064G2532G2147G846G2518G2532G3004G4074G4613G2518G2480G3756G1127G3391G5610
38All of you must stay awake and pray that you won't be tempted. The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak."G1127G2532G4336G3363G1525G1519G3986G4151G3303G4289G1161G4561G772
39He went away again and prayed the same prayer as before.G2532G3825G565G4336G2036G846G3056
40Again he came back and found them asleep, because they could not keep their eyes open. They didn't even know what they should say to him.G2532G5290G2147G846G2518G3825G1063G846G3788G2258G916G2532G3756G1492G5101G611G846
41He came back a third time. "Are you still sleeping and resting?" he asked. "Enough of that! The time has come. Look! The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.G2532G2064G5154G2532G3004G846G2518G3063G2532G373G566G5610G2064G2400G5207G444G3860G1519G5495G268
42Get up! Let's go! See, the one who is betraying me is near!"G1453G71G2400G3860G3165G1448
43Just then, while Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived. A crowd armed with swords and clubs was with him. They were from the high priests, the scribes, and the elders.G2532G2112G846G2089G2980G3854G2455G1520G5607G1427G2532G3326G846G4183G3793G3326G3162G2532G3586G3844G749G2532G1122G2532G4245
44Now the betrayer personally had given them a signal, saying, "The one I kiss is the man. Arrest him, and lead him safely away."G1161G3860G846G1325G846G4953G3004G3739G302G5368G846G2076G2902G846G2532G520G806
45So Judas immediately went up to Jesus and said, "Rabbi,", and kissed him tenderly.44G2532G2064G4334G2112G846G3004G4461G4461G2532G2705G846
46Then the men took hold of Jesus and arrested him.G1161G1911G846G5495G1909G846G2532G2902G846
47But one of those standing there drew his sword and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his ear.G1161G5100G1520G3936G4685G3162G3817G1401G749G2532G851G846G5621
48Jesus asked them, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I were a bandit -G2532G2424G611G2036G846G1831G5613G1909G3027G3326G3162G2532G3586G4815G3165
49Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, yet you didn't arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."G2252G2250G2596G4314G5209G1722G2411G1321G2532G2902G3165G3756G235G1124G2443G4137
50Then all the disciples deserted Jesus and ran away.G2532G3956G863G846G5343
51A certain young man, who was wearing nothing but a linen sheet, was following Jesus. When the men grabbed him,G2532G190G846G1520G5100G3495G4616G4016G1909G1131G2532G3495G2902G846
52he left the linen sheet behind and ran away naked.G1161G2641G4616G5343G575G846G1131
53Then they took Jesus to the high priest. All the high priests, elders, and scribes had gathered together.G2532G520G2424G520G4314G749G2532G846G4905G3956G749G2532G4245G2532G1122
54Peter followed Jesus at a distance as far as the high priest's courtyard. He was sitting with the servants and warming himself at the fire.G2532G4074G190G846G3113G575G2193G2080G1519G833G749G2532G2258G4775G3326G5257G2532G2328G4314G5457
55Meanwhile, the high priests and the whole Council were looking for some testimony against Jesus in order to have him put to death, but they couldn't find any.G1161G749G2532G3650G4892G2212G3141G2596G2424G1519G2289G846G2289G2532G2147G3756
56Although many people gave false testimony against him, their testimony didn't agree.G1063G4183G5576G2596G846G2532G3141G2258G2470G3756G2258
57Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him, saying,G2532G450G5100G5576G2596G846G3004
58"We ourselves heard him say, 'I will destroy this sanctuary made by human hands, and in three days I will build another one not made by human hands.'"G3754G2249G191G846G3004G3754G1473G2647G5126G3485G5499G2532G1223G5140G2250G3618G243G886
59But even on this point their testimony didn't agree.58G2532G3761G3779G2470G846G3141G2258G2470
60Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Don't you have any answer to what these men are testifying against you?"G2532G749G450G1519G3319G1905G2424G3004G3756G611G3762G5101G3778G2649G4675
61But he kept silent and didn't answer at all. The high priest asked him again, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?"G1161G4623G2532G611G3762G3825G749G1905G846G2532G3004G846G1488G4771G5547G5207G2128
62Jesus said, "I AM, and 'you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power' and 'coming with the clouds of heaven.'"G1161G2424G2036G1473G1510G2532G3700G5207G444G2521G1537G1188G1411G2532G2064G3326G3507G3772
63Then the high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we still need witnesses?" he asked.G1161G749G1284G846G5509G3004G5101G5532G2192G2089G3144
64"You have heard his blasphemy! What is your verdict?" All of them condemned him as deserving death.G191G988G5101G5316G5213G1161G3956G2632G846G1511G1777G2288
65Some of them began to spit on him. They blindfolded him and kept hitting him with their fists and telling him, "Prophesy!" Even the servants took him and slapped him around.G2532G5100G756G1716G846G2532G4028G846G4383G2532G2852G846G2532G3004G846G4395G2532G5257G906G846G4475
66While Peter was down in the courtyard, one of the high priest's servant girls came by.G2532G4074G5607G2736G1722G833G2064G3391G3814G749
67When she saw Peter warming himself, she glared at him and said, "You, too, were with Jesus from Nazareth."G2532G1492G4074G2328G1689G846G3004G2532G4771G2532G2258G3326G2424G3479
68But he denied it, saying, "I don't know - or even understand - what you're talking about!" Then he went out into the entryway. Just then a rooster crowed.G1161G720G3004G1492G3756G3761G1987G5101G4771G3004G2532G1831G1854G1519G4259G2532G220G5455
69The servant girl saw him and again said to those who were standing around, "This man is one of them!"G2532G3814G1492G846G3825G756G3004G3936G3754G3778G2076G1537G846
70Again he denied it. After a little while the people who were standing there began to say to Peter again, "Obviously you're one of them, because you are a Galilean!"G1161G720G3825G2532G3397G3326G3936G3004G3825G4074G230G1488G1537G846G2532G1063G1488G1057G2532G4675G2981G3662
71Then he began to invoke a divine curse and to swear with an oath, "I don't know this man you're talking about!"G1161G756G332G2532G3660G3754G1492G3756G5126G444G3739G3004
72Just then a rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered that Jesus said to him, "Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times." Then he broke down and cried.G2532G1537G1208G220G5455G2532G4074G363G4487G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4250G220G5455G1364G533G3165G5151G2532G1911G2799
