Jesus Is Rejected at Nazareth

6Jesus left that place and went back to his hometown, followed by his disciples.G2532G1831G1564G2532G2064G1519G846G3968G2532G846G3101G190G846
2On the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue. Many people were there; and when they heard him, they were all amazed. "Where did he get all this?" they asked. "What wisdom is this that has been given him? How does he perform miracles?G2532G4521G1096G756G1321G1722G4864G2532G4183G191G1605G3004G4159G5129G5023G2532G5101G4678G1325G846G3754G2532G5108G1411G1096G1223G846G5495
3Isn't he the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren't his sisters living here?" And so they rejected him.G2076G3756G3778G5045G5207G3137G1161G80G2385G2532G2500G2532G2455G2532G4613G2532G1526G3756G846G79G5602G4314G2248G2532G4624G1722G846
4Jesus said to them, "Prophets are respected everywhere except in their own hometown and by their relatives and their family."G1161G2424G3004G846G3754G4396G2076G3756G820G1508G1722G846G3968G2532G1722G4773G2532G1722G846G3614
5He was not able to perform any miracles there, except that he placed his hands on a few sick people and healed them.G2532G3756G1410G1563G4160G3762G1411G1508G2007G5495G3641G732G2323

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Disciples

6He was greatly surprised, because the people did not have faith. Then Jesus went to the villages around there, teaching the people.G2532G2296G1223G846G570G2532G4013G2945G2968G1321
7He called the twelve disciples together and sent them out two by two. He gave them authority over the evil spiritsG2532G4341G1427G2532G756G649G846G649G1417G1417G2532G1325G846G1849G169G4151
8and ordered them, "Don't take anything with you on the trip except a walking stick - -no bread, no beggar's bag, no money in your pockets.G2532G3853G846G2443G142G3367G1519G3598G1508G4464G3440G3361G4082G3361G740G3361G5475G1519G2223
9Wear sandals, but don't carry an extra shirt."G235G5265G4547G2532G3361G1746G1746G1417G5509
10He also told them, "Wherever you are welcomed, stay in the same house until you leave that place.G2532G3004G846G3699G1437G1525G1519G3614G1563G3306G2193G302G1831G1564
11If you come to a town where people do not welcome you or will not listen to you, leave it and shake the dust off your feet. That will be a warning to them!"G2532G3745G302G1209G3361G1209G5209G3366G191G5216G1607G1564G1621G5522G5270G5216G4228G1519G3142G846G281G3004G5213G2071G414G4670G2228G1116G1722G2250G2920G2228G1565G4172
12So they went out and preached that people should turn away from their sins.G2532G1831G2784G2443G3340
13They drove out many demons, and rubbed olive oil on many sick people and healed them.G2532G1544G4183G1140G2532G218G1637G4183G732G2532G2323

The Death of John the Baptist

14Now King Herod heard about all this, because Jesus' reputation had spread everywhere. Some people were saying, "John the Baptist has come back to life! That is why he has this power to perform miracles."G2532G935G2264G191G1063G846G3686G1096G5318G2532G3004G3754G2491G907G1453G1537G3498G2532G1223G5124G1411G1754G1722G846
15Others, however, said, "He is Elijah." Others said, "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of long ago."G243G3004G3754G2076G2243G1161G243G3004G3754G2076G4396G2228G5613G1520G4396
16When Herod heard it, he said, "He is John the Baptist! I had his head cut off, but he has come back to life!"G1161G2264G191G2036G3778G2076G2491G3754G3739G1473G607G846G1453G1537G3498
17Herod himself had ordered John's arrest, and he had him tied up and put in prison. Herod did this because of Herodias, whom he had married, even though she was the wife of his brother Philip.G1063G2264G846G649G2902G2491G2532G1210G846G1722G5438G1223G2266G1223G846G80G5376G1135G3754G1060G846
18John the Baptist kept telling Herod, "It isn't right for you to marry your brother's wife!"G1063G2491G3004G2264G3754G1832G3756G1832G4671G2192G4675G80G1135
19So Herodias held a grudge against John and wanted to kill him, but she could not because of Herod.G1161G2266G1758G846G2532G2309G615G846G2532G1410G3756
20Herod was afraid of John because he knew that John was a good and holy man, and so he kept him safe. He liked to listen to him, even though he became greatly disturbed every time he heard him.G1063G2264G5399G2491G1492G846G1342G435G2532G40G2532G4933G846G2532G191G846G4160G4183G2532G191G846G2234
21Finally Herodias got her chance. It was on Herod's birthday, when he gave a feast for all the top government officials, the military chiefs, and the leading citizens of Galilee.G2532G2121G2250G1096G3753G2264G846G1077G4160G1173G846G3175G2532G5506G2532G4413G1056
22The daughter of Herodias came in and danced, and pleased Herod and his guests. So the king said to the girl, "What would you like to have? I will give you anything you want."G2532G2364G846G2266G1525G2532G3738G2532G700G2264G2532G4873G935G2036G2877G154G3165G3739G1437G2309G2532G1325G4671
23With many vows he said to her, "I swear that I will give you anything you ask for, even as much as half my kingdom!"G2532G3660G846G3754G3739G1437G154G3165G1325G4671G2193G2255G3450G932
24So the girl went out and asked her mother, "What shall I ask for?" "The head of John the Baptist," she answered.G1161G1831G2036G846G3384G5101G154G1161G2036G2776G2491G910
25The girl hurried back at once to the king and demanded, "I want you to give me here and now the head of John the Baptist on a plate!"G2532G1525G2112G3326G4710G4314G935G154G3004G2309G2443G1325G3427G1824G1909G4094G2776G2491G910
26This made the king very sad, but he could not refuse her because of the vows he had made in front of all his guests.G2532G935G1096G4036G1223G3727G2532G3588G4873G2309G3756G114G846
27So he sent off a guard at once with orders to bring John's head. The guard left, went to the prison, and cut John's head off;G2532G2112G935G649G4688G2004G846G2776G5342G1161G565G607G846G1722G5438
28then he brought it on a plate and gave it to the girl, who gave it to her mother.G2532G5342G846G2776G1909G4094G2532G1325G846G2877G2532G2877G1325G846G846G3384
29When John's disciples heard about this, they came and got his body, and buried it.G2532G846G3101G191G2064G2532G142G846G4430G2532G5087G846G1722G3419

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

30The apostles returned and met with Jesus, and told him all they had done and taught.G2532G652G4863G4314G2424G2532G518G846G3956G2532G3745G4160G2532G3745G1321
31There were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his disciples didn't even have time to eat. So he said to them, "Let us go off by ourselves to some place where we will be alone and you can rest a while."G2532G2036G846G1205G5210G846G2596G2398G1519G2048G5117G2532G373G3641G1063G2258G4183G2064G2532G5217G2532G3761G2119G3761G5315
32So they started out in a boat by themselves to a lonely place.G2532G565G1519G2048G5117G4143G2596G2398
33Many people, however, saw them leave and knew at once who they were; so they went from all the towns and ran ahead by land and arrived at the place ahead of Jesus and his disciples.G2532G3793G1492G846G5217G2532G4183G1921G846G2532G4936G3979G1563G575G3956G4172G2532G4281G846G2532G4905G4314G846
34When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw this large crowd, and his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.G2532G2424G1831G1492G4183G3793G2532G4697G1909G846G3754G2258G5613G4263G3361G2192G4166G2532G756G1321G846G4183
35When it was getting late, his disciples came to him and said, "It is already very late, and this is a lonely place.G2532G5610G1096G2235G4183G846G3101G4334G846G3004G3754G2076G2048G5117G2532G2235G5610G4183
36Send the people away, and let them go to the nearby farms and villages in order to buy themselves something to eat."G630G846G630G2443G565G1519G68G2945G2532G2968G59G1438G740G1063G2192G5101G3756G5315
37"You yourselves give them something to eat," Jesus answered. They asked, "Do you want us to go and spend two hundred silver coins on bread in order to feed them?"G611G1161G2036G846G1325G5210G846G5315G2532G3004G846G565G59G1250G1220G740G2532G1325G846G5315
38So Jesus asked them, "How much bread do you have? Go and see." When they found out, they told him, "Five loaves and also two fish."G1161G3004G846G4214G740G2192G5217G2532G1492G2532G1097G3004G4002G2532G1417G2486
39Jesus then told his disciples to make all the people divide into groups and sit down on the green grass.G2532G2004G846G347G3956G347G4849G4849G1909G5515G5528
40So the people sat down in rows, in groups of a hundred and groups of fifty.G2532G377G4237G4237G303G1540G2532G303G4004
41Then Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.G2532G2983G4002G740G2532G1417G2486G308G1519G3772G2127G2532G2622G740G2532G1325G846G3101G2443G3908G846G2532G1417G2486G3307G3956
42Everyone ate and had enough.G2532G5315G3956G5315G2532G5526
43Then the disciples took up twelve baskets full of what was left of the bread and the fish.G2532G142G1427G2894G4134G2801G2532G575G2486
44The number of men who were fed was five thousand.G2532G5315G740G2258G5616G4000G435

Jesus Walks on the Water

45At once Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to Bethsaida, on the other side of the lake, while he sent the crowd away.G2532G2112G315G846G3101G1684G1519G4143G2532G4254G1519G4008G4254G4314G966G2193G846G630G3793
46After saying good-bye to the people, he went away to a hill to pray.G2532G657G846G657G565G1519G3735G4336
47When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, while Jesus was alone on land.G2532G3798G1096G4143G2258G1722G3319G2281G2532G846G3441G1909G1093
48He saw that his disciples were straining at the oars, because they were rowing against the wind; so sometime between three and six o'clock in the morning, he came to them, walking on the water. He was going to pass them by,G2532G1492G846G928G1722G1643G1063G417G2258G1727G846G2532G4012G5067G5438G3571G2064G4314G846G4043G1909G2281G2532G2309G3928G846
49but they saw him walking on the water. "It's a ghost!" they thought, and screamed.G1161G1492G846G4043G1909G2281G1380G1511G5326G2532G349
50They were all terrified when they saw him. Jesus spoke to them at once, "Courage!" he said. "It is I. Don't be afraid!"G1063G3956G1492G846G2532G5015G2532G2112G2980G3326G846G2532G3004G846G2293G1510G1473G5399G3361G5399
51Then he got into the boat with them, and the wind died down. The disciples were completely amazed,G2532G305G4314G846G1519G4143G2532G417G2869G2532G3029G1839G1722G1438G1537G4053G2532G2296
52because they had not understood the real meaning of the feeding of the five thousand; their minds could not grasp it.G1063G4920G3756G1909G740G1063G846G2588G2258G4456

Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret

53They crossed the lake and came to land at Gennesaret, where they tied up the boat.G2532G1276G2064G1909G1093G1082G2532G4358
54As they left the boat, people recognized Jesus at once.G2532G846G1831G1537G4143G2112G1921G846
55So they ran throughout the whole region; and wherever they heard he was, they brought to him the sick lying on their mats.G4063G1565G3650G4066G756G4064G1909G2895G2192G2560G3699G191G3754G1563G2076
56And everywhere Jesus went, to villages, towns, or farms, people would take their sick to the marketplaces and beg him to let the sick at least touch the edge of his cloak. And all who touched it were made well.G2532G3699G302G1531G1519G2968G2228G4172G2228G68G5087G770G1722G58G2532G3870G846G2443G680G2579G2579G2899G846G2440G2532G3745G302G680G846G4982
