Rejection at Nazareth

6He went away from there and came to His hometown, and His disciples followed Him.G2532G1831G1564G2532G2064G1519G846G3968G2532G846G3101G190G846
2When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. "Where did this man get these things?" they said. "What is this wisdom given to Him, and how are these miracles performed by His hands?G2532G4521G1096G756G1321G1722G4864G2532G4183G191G1605G3004G4159G5129G5023G2532G5101G4678G1325G846G3754G2532G5108G1411G1096G1223G846G5495
3Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren't His sisters here with us?" So they were offended by Him.G2076G3756G3778G5045G5207G3137G1161G80G2385G2532G2500G2532G2455G2532G4613G2532G1526G3756G846G79G5602G4314G2248G2532G4624G1722G846
4Then Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household."G1161G2424G3004G846G3754G4396G2076G3756G820G1508G1722G846G3968G2532G1722G4773G2532G1722G846G3614
5So He was not able to do any miracles there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.G2532G3756G1410G1563G4160G3762G1411G1508G2007G5495G3641G732G2323

Commissioning the Twelve

6And He was amazed at their unbelief. Now He was going around the villages in a circuit, teaching.G2532G2296G1223G846G570G2532G4013G2945G2968G1321
7He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean spirits.G2532G4341G1427G2532G756G649G846G649G1417G1417G2532G1325G846G1849G169G4151
8He instructed them to take nothing for the road except a walking stick: no bread, no traveling bag, no money in their belts.G2532G3853G846G2443G142G3367G1519G3598G1508G4464G3440G3361G4082G3361G740G3361G5475G1519G2223
9They were to wear sandals, but not put on an extra shirt.G235G5265G4547G2532G3361G1746G1746G1417G5509
10Then He said to them, "Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place.G2532G3004G846G3699G1437G1525G1519G3614G1563G3306G2193G302G1831G1564
11If any place does not welcome you and people refuse to listen to you, when you leave there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."G2532G3745G302G1209G3361G1209G5209G3366G191G5216G1607G1564G1621G5522G5270G5216G4228G1519G3142G846G281G3004G5213G2071G414G4670G2228G1116G1722G2250G2920G2228G1565G4172
12So they went out and preached that people should repent.G2532G1831G2784G2443G3340
13And they were driving out many demons, anointing many sick people with oil, and healing.G2532G1544G4183G1140G2532G218G1637G4183G732G2532G2323

John the Baptist Beheaded

14King Herod heard of this, because Jesus' name had become well known. Some said, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that's why supernatural powers are at work in him."G2532G935G2264G191G1063G846G3686G1096G5318G2532G3004G3754G2491G907G1453G1537G3498G2532G1223G5124G1411G1754G1722G846
15But others said, "He's Elijah." Still others said, "He's a prophet— like one of the prophets."G243G3004G3754G2076G2243G1161G243G3004G3754G2076G4396G2228G5613G1520G4396
16When Herod heard of it, he said, "John, the one I beheaded, has been raised!"G1161G2264G191G2036G3778G2076G2491G3754G3739G1473G607G846G1453G1537G3498
17For Herod himself had given orders to arrest John and to chain him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom he had married.G1063G2264G846G649G2902G2491G2532G1210G846G1722G5438G1223G2266G1223G846G80G5376G1135G3754G1060G846
18John had been telling Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife!"G1063G2491G3004G2264G3754G1832G3756G1832G4671G2192G4675G80G1135
19So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could not,G1161G2266G1758G846G2532G2309G615G846G2532G1410G3756
20because Herod was in awe of John and was protecting him, knowing he was a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard him he would be very disturbed, yet would hear him gladly.G1063G2264G5399G2491G1492G846G1342G435G2532G40G2532G4933G846G2532G191G846G4160G4183G2532G191G846G2234
21Now an opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet for his nobles, military commanders, and the leading men of Galilee.G2532G2121G2250G1096G3753G2264G846G1077G4160G1173G846G3175G2532G5506G2532G4413G1056
22When Herodias' own daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want, and I'll give it to you."G2532G2364G846G2266G1525G2532G3738G2532G700G2264G2532G4873G935G2036G2877G154G3165G3739G1437G2309G2532G1325G4671
23So he swore oaths to her: "Whatever you ask me I will give you, up to half my kingdom."G2532G3660G846G3754G3739G1437G154G3165G1325G4671G2193G2255G3450G932
24Then she went out and said to her mother, "What should I ask for?" "John the Baptist's head!" she said.G1161G1831G2036G846G3384G5101G154G1161G2036G2776G2491G910
25Immediately she hurried to the king and said, "I want you to give me John the Baptist's head on a platter— right now!"G2532G1525G2112G3326G4710G4314G935G154G3004G2309G2443G1325G3427G1824G1909G4094G2776G2491G910
26Though the king was deeply distressed, because of his oaths and the guests he did not want to refuse her.G2532G935G1096G4036G1223G3727G2532G3588G4873G2309G3756G114G846
27The king immediately sent for an executioner and commanded him to bring John's head. So he went and beheaded him in prison,G2532G2112G935G649G4688G2004G846G2776G5342G1161G565G607G846G1722G5438
28brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother.G2532G5342G846G2776G1909G4094G2532G1325G846G2877G2532G2877G1325G846G846G3384
29When his disciples heard about it, they came and removed his corpse and placed it in a tomb.G2532G846G3101G191G2064G2532G142G846G4430G2532G5087G846G1722G3419

Feeding 5,000

30The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all that they had done and taught.G2532G652G4863G4314G2424G2532G518G846G3956G2532G3745G4160G2532G3745G1321
31He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest a while." For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.G2532G2036G846G1205G5210G846G2596G2398G1519G2048G5117G2532G373G3641G1063G2258G4183G2064G2532G5217G2532G3761G2119G3761G5315
32So they went away in the boat by themselves to a remote place,G2532G565G1519G2048G5117G4143G2596G2398
33but many saw them leaving and recognized them. People ran there by land from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.G2532G3793G1492G846G5217G2532G4183G1921G846G2532G4936G3979G1563G575G3956G4172G2532G4281G846G2532G4905G4314G846
34So as He stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Then He began to teach them many things.G2532G2424G1831G1492G4183G3793G2532G4697G1909G846G3754G2258G5613G4263G3361G2192G4166G2532G756G1321G846G4183
35When it was already late, His disciples approached Him and said, "This place is a wilderness, and it is already late!G2532G5610G1096G2235G4183G846G3101G4334G846G3004G3754G2076G2048G5117G2532G2235G5610G4183
36Send them away, so they can go into the surrounding countryside and villages to buy themselves something to eat."G630G846G630G2443G565G1519G68G2945G2532G2968G59G1438G740G1063G2192G5101G3756G5315
37"You give them something to eat," He responded. They said to Him, "Should we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?"G611G1161G2036G846G1325G5210G846G5315G2532G3004G846G565G59G1250G1220G740G2532G1325G846G5315
38And He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go look." When they found out they said, "Five, and two fish."G1161G3004G846G4214G740G2192G5217G2532G1492G2532G1097G3004G4002G2532G1417G2486
39Then He instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.G2532G2004G846G347G3956G347G4849G4849G1909G5515G5528
40So they sat down in ranks of hundreds and fifties.G2532G377G4237G4237G303G1540G2532G303G4004
41Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke the loaves. He kept giving them to His disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.G2532G2983G4002G740G2532G1417G2486G308G1519G3772G2127G2532G2622G740G2532G1325G846G3101G2443G3908G846G2532G1417G2486G3307G3956
42Everyone ate and was filled.G2532G5315G3956G5315G2532G5526
43Then they picked up 12 baskets full of pieces of bread and fish.G2532G142G1427G2894G4134G2801G2532G575G2486
44Now those who ate the loaves were 5,000 men.G2532G5315G740G2258G5616G4000G435

Walking on the Water

45Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd.G2532G2112G315G846G3101G1684G1519G4143G2532G4254G1519G4008G4254G4314G966G2193G846G630G3793
46After He said good-bye to them, He went away to the mountain to pray.G2532G657G846G657G565G1519G3735G4336
47When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land.G2532G3798G1096G4143G2258G1722G3319G2281G2532G846G3441G1909G1093
48He saw them being battered as they rowed, because the wind was against them. Around three in the morning He came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them.G2532G1492G846G928G1722G1643G1063G417G2258G1727G846G2532G4012G5067G5438G3571G2064G4314G846G4043G1909G2281G2532G2309G3928G846
49When they saw Him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out;G1161G1492G846G4043G1909G2281G1380G1511G5326G2532G349
50for they all saw Him and were terrified. Immediately He spoke with them and said, "Have courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."G1063G3956G1492G846G2532G5015G2532G2112G2980G3326G846G2532G3004G846G2293G1510G1473G5399G3361G5399
51Then He got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded,G2532G305G4314G846G1519G4143G2532G417G2869G2532G3029G1839G1722G1438G1537G4053G2532G2296
52because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.G1063G4920G3756G1909G740G1063G846G2588G2258G4456

Miraculous Healings

53When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and beached the boat.G2532G1276G2064G1909G1093G1082G2532G4358
54As they got out of the boat, people immediately recognized Him.G2532G846G1831G1537G4143G2112G1921G846
55They hurried throughout that vicinity and began to carry the sick on stretchers to wherever they heard He was.G4063G1565G3650G4066G756G4064G1909G2895G2192G2560G3699G191G3754G1563G2076
56Wherever He would go, into villages, towns, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might touch just the tassel of His robe. And everyone who touched it was made well.G2532G3699G302G1531G1519G2968G2228G4172G2228G68G5087G770G1722G58G2532G3870G846G2443G680G2579G2579G2899G846G2440G2532G3745G302G680G846G4982
