The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

6He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.G2532G1831G1564G2532G2064G1519G846G3968G2532G846G3101G190G846 2On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands!G2532G4521G1096G756G1321G1722G4864G2532G4183G191G1605G3004G4159G5129G5023G2532G5101G4678G1325G846G3754G2532G5108G1411G1096G1223G846G5495 3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.G2076G3756G3778G5045G5207G3137G1161G80G2385G2532G2500G2532G2455G2532G4613G2532G1526G3756G846G79G5602G4314G2248G2532G4624G1722G846 4Then Jesus said to them, "Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house."G1161G2424G3004G846G3754G4396G2076G3756G820G1508G1722G846G3968G2532G1722G4773G2532G1722G846G3614 5And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them.G2532G3756G1410G1563G4160G3762G1411G1508G2007G5495G3641G732G2323

The Mission of the Twelve

6And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching.G2532G2296G1223G846G570G2532G4013G2945G2968G1321 7He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.G2532G4341G1427G2532G756G649G846G649G1417G1417G2532G1325G846G1849G169G4151 8He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts;G2532G3853G846G2443G142G3367G1519G3598G1508G4464G3440G3361G4082G3361G740G3361G5475G1519G2223 9but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics.G235G5265G4547G2532G3361G1746G1746G1417G5509 10He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place.G2532G3004G846G3699G1437G1525G1519G3614G1563G3306G2193G302G1831G1564 11If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them."G2532G3745G302G1209G3361G1209G5209G3366G191G5216G1607G1564G1621G5522G5270G5216G4228G1519G3142G846G281G3004G5213G2071G414G4670G2228G1116G1722G2250G2920G2228G1565G4172 12So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent.G2532G1831G2784G2443G3340 13They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.G2532G1544G4183G1140G2532G218G1637G4183G732G2532G2323

The Death of John the Baptist

14King Herod heard of it, for Jesus' name had become known. Some were saying, "John the baptizer has been raised from the dead; and for this reason these powers are at work in him."G2532G935G2264G191G1063G846G3686G1096G5318G2532G3004G3754G2491G907G1453G1537G3498G2532G1223G5124G1411G1754G1722G846 15But others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old."G243G3004G3754G2076G2243G1161G243G3004G3754G2076G4396G2228G5613G1520G4396 16But when Herod heard of it, he said, "John, whom I beheaded, has been raised."G1161G2264G191G2036G3778G2076G2491G3754G3739G1473G607G846G1453G1537G3498 17For Herod himself had sent men who arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because Herod had married her.G1063G2264G846G649G2902G2491G2532G1210G846G1722G5438G1223G2266G1223G846G80G5376G1135G3754G1060G846 18For John had been telling Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."G1063G2491G3004G2264G3754G1832G3756G1832G4671G2192G4675G80G1135 19And Herodias had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not,G1161G2266G1758G846G2532G2309G615G846G2532G1410G3756 20for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed; and yet he liked to listen to him.G1063G2264G5399G2491G1492G846G1342G435G2532G40G2532G4933G846G2532G191G846G4160G4183G2532G191G846G2234 21But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and for the leaders of Galilee.G2532G2121G2250G1096G3753G2264G846G1077G4160G1173G846G3175G2532G5506G2532G4413G1056 22When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king said to the girl, "Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it."G2532G2364G846G2266G1525G2532G3738G2532G700G2264G2532G4873G935G2036G2877G154G3165G3739G1437G2309G2532G1325G4671 23And he solemnly swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom."G2532G3660G846G3754G3739G1437G154G3165G1325G4671G2193G2255G3450G932 24She went out and said to her mother, "What should I ask for?" She replied, "The head of John the baptizer."G1161G1831G2036G846G3384G5101G154G1161G2036G2776G2491G910 25Immediately she rushed back to the king and requested, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter."G2532G1525G2112G3326G4710G4314G935G154G3004G2309G2443G1325G3427G1824G1909G4094G2776G2491G910 26The king was deeply grieved; yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her.G2532G935G1096G4036G1223G3727G2532G3588G4873G2309G3756G114G846 27Immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard with orders to bring John's head. He went and beheaded him in the prison,G2532G2112G935G649G4688G2004G846G2776G5342G1161G565G607G846G1722G5438 28brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother.G2532G5342G846G2776G1909G4094G2532G1325G846G2877G2532G2877G1325G846G846G3384 29When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.G2532G846G3101G191G2064G2532G142G846G4430G2532G5087G846G1722G3419

Feeding the Five Thousand

30The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.G2532G652G4863G4314G2424G2532G518G846G3956G2532G3745G4160G2532G3745G1321 31He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.G2532G2036G846G1205G5210G846G2596G2398G1519G2048G5117G2532G373G3641G1063G2258G4183G2064G2532G5217G2532G3761G2119G3761G5315 32And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.G2532G565G1519G2048G5117G4143G2596G2398 33Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.G2532G3793G1492G846G5217G2532G4183G1921G846G2532G4936G3979G1563G575G3956G4172G2532G4281G846G2532G4905G4314G846 34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.G2532G2424G1831G1492G4183G3793G2532G4697G1909G846G3754G2258G5613G4263G3361G2192G4166G2532G756G1321G846G4183 35When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late;G2532G5610G1096G2235G4183G846G3101G4334G846G3004G3754G2076G2048G5117G2532G2235G5610G4183 36send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat."G630G846G630G2443G565G1519G68G2945G2532G2968G59G1438G740G1063G2192G5101G3756G5315 37But he answered them, "You give them something to eat." They said to him, "Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?"G611G1161G2036G846G1325G5210G846G5315G2532G3004G846G565G59G1250G1220G740G2532G1325G846G5315 38And he said to them, "How many loaves have you? Go and see." When they had found out, they said, "Five, and two fish."G1161G3004G846G4214G740G2192G5217G2532G1492G2532G1097G3004G4002G2532G1417G2486 39Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass.G2532G2004G846G347G3956G347G4849G4849G1909G5515G5528 40So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.G2532G377G4237G4237G303G1540G2532G303G4004 41Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all.G2532G2983G4002G740G2532G1417G2486G308G1519G3772G2127G2532G2622G740G2532G1325G846G3101G2443G3908G846G2532G1417G2486G3307G3956 42And all ate and were filled;G2532G5315G3956G5315G2532G5526 43and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.G2532G142G1427G2894G4134G2801G2532G575G2486 44Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.G2532G5315G740G2258G5616G4000G435

Jesus Walks on the Water

45Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.G2532G2112G315G846G3101G1684G1519G4143G2532G4254G1519G4008G4254G4314G966G2193G846G630G3793 46After saying farewell to them, he went up on the mountain to pray.G2532G657G846G657G565G1519G3735G4336 47When evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.G2532G3798G1096G4143G2258G1722G3319G2281G2532G846G3441G1909G1093 48When he saw that they were straining at the oars against an adverse wind, he came towards them early in the morning, walking on the sea. He intended to pass them by.G2532G1492G846G928G1722G1643G1063G417G2258G1727G846G2532G4012G5067G5438G3571G2064G4314G846G4043G1909G2281G2532G2309G3928G846 49But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out;G1161G1492G846G4043G1909G2281G1380G1511G5326G2532G349 50for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid."G1063G3956G1492G846G2532G5015G2532G2112G2980G3326G846G2532G3004G846G2293G1510G1473G5399G3361G5399 51Then he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded,G2532G305G4314G846G1519G4143G2532G417G2869G2532G3029G1839G1722G1438G1537G4053G2532G2296 52for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.G1063G4920G3756G1909G740G1063G846G2588G2258G4456

Healing the Sick in Gennesaret

53When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat.G2532G1276G2064G1909G1093G1082G2532G4358 54When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him,G2532G846G1831G1537G4143G2112G1921G846 55and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.G4063G1565G3650G4066G756G4064G1909G2895G2192G2560G3699G191G3754G1563G2076 56And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.G2532G3699G302G1531G1519G2968G2228G4172G2228G68G5087G770G1722G58G2532G3870G846G2443G680G2579G2579G2899G846G2440G2532G3745G302G680G846G4982
