Complaints about Hardship

11Now the people began complaining openly before the LORD about hardship. When the LORD heard, His anger burned, and the fire from the LORD blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.H5971H596H7451H241H3068H3068H8085H639H2734H784H3068H1197H398H7097H4264
2Then the people cried out to Moses, and he prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down.H5971H6817H4872H4872H6419H3068H784H8257
3So that place was named Taberah, because the LORD's fire had blazed among them.H7121H8034H1931H4725H8404H784H3068H1197

Complaints about Food

4Contemptible people among them had a strong craving [for other food]. The Israelites cried again and said, "Who will feed us meat?H628H7130H183H8378H1121H3478H1058H7725H559H1320H398
5We remember the free fish we ate in Egypt, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.H2142H1710H398H4714H2600H7180H20H2682H1211H7762
6But now our appetite is gone; there's nothing to look at but this manna!"H5315H3002H1115H4478H5869
7The manna resembled coriander seed, and its appearance was like that of bdellium.H4478H1407H2233H5869H5869H916
8The people walked around and gathered [it]. They ground [it] on a pair of grinding stones or crushed [it] in a mortar, then boiled [it] in a cooking pot and shaped it into cakes. It tasted like a pastry cooked with the finest oil.H5971H7751H3950H2912H7347H1743H4085H1310H6517H6213H5692H2940H2940H3955H8081
9When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it.H2919H3381H4264H3915H4478H3381
10Moses heard the people, family after family, crying at the entrance of their tents. The LORD was very angry; Moses was also provoked.H4872H8085H5971H1058H4940H376H6607H168H639H3068H2734H3966H4872H7489H5869
11So Moses asked the LORD, "Why have You brought such trouble on Your servant? Why are You angry with me, and why do You burden me with all these people?H4872H559H3068H7489H5650H4672H2580H5869H7760H4853H5971
12Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth so You should tell me, 'Carry them at your breast, as a nursing woman carries a baby,' to the land that You swore to [give] their fathers?H2029H5971H3205H559H5375H2436H539H5375H3243H127H7650H1
13Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are crying to me: 'Give us meat to eat!'H370H1320H5414H5971H1058H559H5414H1320H398
14"I can't carry all these people by myself. They are too much for me.H3201H5375H5971H905H3515
15If You are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now. If You are pleased with me, don't let me see my misery [any more]."H6213H2026H2026H4672H2580H5869H7200H7451

Seventy Elders Anointed

16The LORD answered Moses, "Bring Me 70 men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you.H3068H559H4872H622H7657H376H2205H3478H3045H2205H5971H7860H3947H168H4150H3320
17Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put [the Spirit] on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself.H3381H1696H680H7307H7760H5375H4853H5971H5375
18"Tell the people: Purify yourselves [in readiness] for tomorrow, and you will eat meat because you cried before the LORD: 'Who will feed us meat? We really had it good in Egypt.' The LORD will give you meat and you will eat.H559H5971H6942H4279H398H1320H1058H241H3068H559H1320H398H2895H4714H3068H5414H1320H398
19You will eat, not for one day, or two days, or five days, or 10 days, or 20 days,H398H259H3117H3117H2568H3117H6235H3117H6242H3117
20but for a whole month— until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes nauseating to you— because you have rejected the LORD who is among you, and cried to Him: 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'"H2320H3117H3318H639H2214H3282H3988H3068H7130H1058H6440H559H3318H4714
21But Moses replied, "I'm in the middle of a people with 600,000 foot soldiers, yet You say, 'I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.'H4872H559H5971H7130H8337H3967H505H7273H559H5414H1320H398H3117H2320
22If flocks and herds were slaughtered for them, would they have enough? Or if all the fish in the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?"H6629H1241H7819H4672H1709H3220H622H4672
23The LORD answered Moses, "Is the LORD's power limited? You will see whether or not what I have promised will happen to you."H3068H559H4872H3068H3027H7114H7200H1697H7136
24Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. He brought 70 men from the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent.H4872H3318H1696H5971H1697H3068H622H7657H376H2205H5971H5975H5439H168
25Then the LORD descended in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and placed [the Spirit] on the 70 elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they never did it again.H3068H3381H6051H1696H680H7307H5414H7657H2205H376H7307H5117H5012H3254
26Two men had remained in the camp, one named Eldad and the other Medad; the Spirit rested on them— they were among those listed, but had not gone out to the tent— and they prophesied in the camp.H7604H8147H582H4264H8034H259H419H8034H8145H4312H7307H5117H3789H3318H168H5012H4264
27A young man ran and reported to Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."H7323H5288H5046H4872H559H419H4312H5012H4264
28Joshua son of Nun, assistant to Moses since his youth, responded, "Moses, my lord, stop them!"H3091H1121H5126H8334H4872H979H6030H559H113H4872H3607
29But Moses asked him, "Are you jealous on my account? If only all the LORD's people were prophets, and the LORD would place His Spirit on them."H4872H559H7065H5414H3068H5971H5030H3068H5414H7307
30Then Moses returned to the camp along with the elders of Israel.H4872H622H4264H2205H3478

Quail in the Camp

31A wind sent by the LORD came up and blew quail in from the sea; it dropped [them] at the camp all around, three feet off the ground, about a day's journey in every direction.H5265H7307H3068H1468H7958H3220H5203H4264H3117H1870H3541H3117H1870H3541H5439H4264H520H6440H776
32The people were up all that day and night and all the next day gathering the quail— the one who took the least gathered 33 bushels— and they spread them out all around the camp.H5971H6965H3117H3915H4283H3117H622H7958H4591H622H6235H2563H7849H7849H5439H4264
33While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the LORD's anger burned against the people, and the LORD struck them with a very severe plague.H1320H2962H8127H3772H639H3068H2734H5971H3068H5221H5971H3966H7227H4347
34So they named that place Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved [the meat].H7121H8034H4725H6914H6912H5971H183
35From Kibroth-hattaavah the people moved on to Hazeroth and remained there.H5971H5265H6914H2698H2698
