Complaining in the Desert

11Now when the people complained in the hearing of the LORD about their misfortunes, the LORD heard it and his anger was kindled. Then the fire of the LORD burned against them, and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.H5971H596H7451H241H3068H3068H8085H639H2734H784H3068H1197H398H7097H4264 2But the people cried out to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire abated.H5971H6817H4872H4872H6419H3068H784H8257 3So that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burned against them.H7121H8034H1931H4725H8404H784H3068H1197 4The rabble among them had a strong craving; and the Israelites also wept again, and said, "If only we had meat to eat!H628H7130H183H8378H1121H3478H1058H7725H559H1320H398 5We remember the fish we used to eat in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;H2142H1710H398H4714H2600H7180H20H2682H1211H7762 6but now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at."H5315H3002H1115H4478H5869 7Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color was like the color of gum resin.H4478H1407H2233H5869H5869H916 8The people went around and gathered it, ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, then boiled it in pots and made cakes of it; and the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil.H5971H7751H3950H2912H7347H1743H4085H1310H6517H6213H5692H2940H2940H3955H8081 9When the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna would fall with it.H2919H3381H4264H3915H4478H3381 10Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, all at the entrances of their tents. Then the LORD became very angry, and Moses was displeased.H4872H8085H5971H1058H4940H376H6607H168H639H3068H2734H3966H4872H7489H5869 11So Moses said to the LORD, "Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?H4872H559H3068H7489H5650H4672H2580H5869H7760H4853H5971 12Did I conceive all this people? Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a sucking child,' to the land that you promised on oath to their ancestors?H2029H5971H3205H559H5375H2436H539H5375H3243H127H7650H1 13Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they come weeping to me and say, 'Give us meat to eat!'H370H1320H5414H5971H1058H559H5414H1320H398 14I am not able to carry all this people alone, for they are too heavy for me.H3201H5375H5971H905H3515 15If this is the way you are going to treat me, put me to death at once—if I have found favor in your sight—and do not let me see my misery."H6213H2026H2026H4672H2580H5869H7200H7451

The Seventy Elders

16So the LORD said to Moses, "Gather for me seventy of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tent of meeting, and have them take their place there with you.H3068H559H4872H622H7657H376H2205H3478H3045H2205H5971H7860H3947H168H4150H3320 17I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take some of the spirit that is on you and put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people along with you so that you will not bear it all by yourself.H3381H1696H680H7307H7760H5375H4853H5971H5375 18And say to the people: Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wailed in the hearing of the LORD, saying, 'If only we had meat to eat! Surely it was better for us in Egypt.' Therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you shall eat.H559H5971H6942H4279H398H1320H1058H241H3068H559H1320H398H2895H4714H3068H5414H1320H398 19You shall eat not only one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,H398H259H3117H3117H2568H3117H6235H3117H6242H3117 20but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you—because you have rejected the LORD who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'"H2320H3117H3318H639H2214H3282H3988H3068H7130H1058H6440H559H3318H4714 21But Moses said, "The people I am with number six hundred thousand on foot; and you say, 'I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month'!H4872H559H5971H7130H8337H3967H505H7273H559H5414H1320H398H3117H2320 22Are there enough flocks and herds to slaughter for them? Are there enough fish in the sea to catch for them?"H6629H1241H7819H4672H1709H3220H622H4672 23The LORD said to Moses, "Is the LORD's power limited? Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not."H3068H559H4872H3068H3027H7114H7200H1697H7136 24So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD; and he gathered seventy elders of the people, and placed them all around the tent.H4872H3318H1696H5971H1697H3068H622H7657H376H2205H5971H5975H5439H168 25Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do so again.H3068H3381H6051H1696H680H7307H5414H7657H2205H376H7307H5117H5012H3254 26Two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp.H7604H8147H582H4264H8034H259H419H8034H8145H4312H7307H5117H3789H3318H168H5012H4264 27And a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."H7323H5288H5046H4872H559H419H4312H5012H4264 28And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, "My lord Moses, stop them!"H3091H1121H5126H8334H4872H979H6030H559H113H4872H3607 29But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit on them!"H4872H559H7065H5414H3068H5971H5030H3068H5414H7307 30And Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.H4872H622H4264H2205H3478

The Quails

31Then a wind went out from the LORD, and it brought quails from the sea and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits deep on the ground.H5265H7307H3068H1468H7958H3220H5203H4264H3117H1870H3541H3117H1870H3541H5439H4264H520H6440H776 32So the people worked all that day and night and all the next day, gathering the quails; the least anyone gathered was ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.H5971H6965H3117H3915H4283H3117H622H7958H4591H622H6235H2563H7849H7849H5439H4264 33But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague.H1320H2962H8127H3772H639H3068H2734H5971H3068H5221H5971H3966H7227H4347 34So that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had the craving.H7121H8034H4725H6914H6912H5971H183 35From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth.H5971H5265H6914H2698H2698
