The People Complain

11Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the LORD; and when the LORD heard [it,] His anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed [some] of the outskirts of the camp.H5971H596H7451H241H3068H3068H8085H639H2734H784H3068H1197H398H7097H4264 2The people therefore cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire died out.H5971H6817H4872H4872H6419H3068H784H8257 3So the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burned among them.H7121H8034H1931H4725H8404H784H3068H1197 4And the rabble who were among them had greedy desires; and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, "Who will give us meat to eat?H628H7130H183H8378H1121H3478H1058H7725H559H1320H398 5"We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic,H2142H1710H398H4714H2600H7180H20H2682H1211H7762 6but now our appetite is gone. There is nothing at all to look at except this manna. "H5315H3002H1115H4478H5869 7Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium.H4478H1407H2233H5869H5869H916 8The people would go about and gather [it] and grind [it] between two millstones or beat [it] in the mortar, and boil [it] in the pot and make cakes with it; and its taste was as the taste of cakes baked with oil.H5971H7751H3950H2912H7347H1743H4085H1310H6517H6213H5692H2940H2940H3955H8081 9And when the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it.H2919H3381H4264H3915H4478H3381

The Complaint of Moses

10Now Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, each man at the doorway of his tent; and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly, and Moses was displeased.H4872H8085H5971H1058H4940H376H6607H168H639H3068H2734H3966H4872H7489H5869 11So Moses said to the LORD, "Why hast Thou been so hard on Thy servant? And why have I not found favor in Thy sight, that Thou hast laid the burden of all this people on me?H4872H559H3068H7489H5650H4672H2580H5869H7760H4853H5971 12"Was it I who conceived all this people? Was it I who brought them forth, that Thou shouldest say to me, 'Carry them in your bosom as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which Thou didst swear to their fathers'?H2029H5971H3205H559H5375H2436H539H5375H3243H127H7650H1 13"Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me, saying, 'Give us meat that we may eat!'H370H1320H5414H5971H1058H559H5414H1320H398 14"I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me.H3201H5375H5971H905H3515 15"So if Thou art going to deal thus with me, please kill me at once, if I have found favor in Thy sight, and do not let me see my wretchedness."H6213H2026H2026H4672H2580H5869H7200H7451

Seventy Elders to Assist

16The LORD therefore said to Moses, "Gather for Me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and their officers and bring them to the tent of meeting, and let them take their stand there with you.H3068H559H4872H622H7657H376H2205H3478H3045H2205H5971H7860H3947H168H4150H3320 17"Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit who is upon you, and will put [Him] upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you shall not bear [it] all alone.H3381H1696H680H7307H7760H5375H4853H5971H5375 18"And say to the people, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying," Oh that someone would give us meat to eat! For we were well-off in Egypt. "Therefore the LORD will give you meat and you shall eat.H559H5971H6942H4279H398H1320H1058H241H3068H559H1320H398H2895H4714H3068H5414H1320H398 19'You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days,H398H259H3117H3117H2568H3117H6235H3117H6242H3117 20but a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you; because you have rejected the LORD who is among you and have wept before Him, saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?" '"H2320H3117H3318H639H2214H3282H3988H3068H7130H1058H6440H559H3318H4714 21But Moses said, "The people, among whom I am, are 6000000 on foot; yet Thou hast said, 'I will give them meat in order that they may eat for a whole month.'H4872H559H5971H7130H8337H3967H505H7273H559H5414H1320H398H3117H2320 22"Should flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Or should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?"H6629H1241H7819H4672H1709H3220H622H4672 23And the LORD said to Moses, "Is the Lord's power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not."H3068H559H4872H3068H3027H7114H7200H1697H7136 24So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and stationed them around the tent.H4872H3318H1696H5971H1697H3068H622H7657H376H2205H5971H5975H5439H168 25Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed [Him] upon the seventy elders. And it came about that when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do [it] again.H3068H3381H6051H1696H680H7307H5414H7657H2205H376H7307H5117H5012H3254 26But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp.H7604H8147H582H4264H8034H259H419H8034H8145H4312H7307H5117H3789H3318H168H5012H4264 27So a young man ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."H7323H5288H5046H4872H559H419H4312H5012H4264 28Then Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, answered and said, "Moses, my lord, restrain them."H3091H1121H5126H8334H4872H979H6030H559H113H4872H3607 29But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!"H4872H559H7065H5414H3068H5971H5030H3068H5414H7307 30Then Moses returned to the camp, [both] he and the elders of Israel.H4872H622H4264H2205H3478

The Quail and the Plague

31Now there went forth a wind from the LORD, and it brought quail from the sea, and let [them] fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits [deep] on the surface of the ground.H5265H7307H3068H1468H7958H3220H5203H4264H3117H1870H3541H3117H1870H3541H5439H4264H520H6440H776 32And the people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread [them] out for themselves all around the camp.H5971H6965H3117H3915H4283H3117H622H7958H4591H622H6235H2563H7849H7849H5439H4264 33While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.H1320H2962H8127H3772H639H3068H2734H5971H3068H5221H5971H3966H7227H4347 34So the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had been greedy.H7121H8034H4725H6914H6912H5971H183 35From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth, and they remained at Hazeroth.H5971H5265H6914H2698H2698
