The Usefulness of Proverbs

1The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:H4912H8010H1121H1732H4428H3478 2To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding,H3045H2451H4148H995H561H998 3To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity;H3947H4148H7919H6664H4941H4339 4To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion,H5414H6195H6612H5288H1847H4209 5A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,H2450H8085H3254H3948H995H7069H8458 6To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles.H995H4912H4426H1697H2450H2420 7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.H3374H3068H7225H1847H191H936H2451H4148

The Enticement of Sinners

8Hear, my son, your father's instruction, And do not forsake your mother's teaching;H1121H8085H4148H1H5203H8451H517 9Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head, And ornaments about your neck.H3880H2580H7218H6060H1621 10My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.H1121H2400H6601H14 11If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without cause;H559H3212H693H1818H6845H5355H2600 12Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to the pit;H1104H2416H7585H8549H3381H953 13We shall find all [kinds] of precious wealth, We shall fill our houses with spoil;H4672H3368H1952H4390H1004H7998 14Throw in your lot with us, We shall all have one purse, "H5307H1486H8432H259H3599 15My son, do not walk in the way with them. Keep your feet from their path,H1121H3212H1870H4513H7272H5410 16For their feet run to evil, And they hasten to shed blood.H7272H7323H7451H4116H8210H1818 17Indeed, it is useless to spread the net In the eyes of any bird;H2600H7568H2219H5869H1167H3671 18But they lie in wait for their own blood; They ambush their own lives.H693H1818H6845H5315 19So are the ways of everyone who gains by violence; It takes away the life of its possessors.H734H1214H1215H3947H5315H1167

Wisdom Warns

20Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;H2454H7442H2351H5414H6963H7339 21At the head of the noisy [streets] she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city, she utters her sayings:H7121H7218H1993H6607H8179H5892H559H561 22"How long, O naive ones, will you love simplicity? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?H6612H157H6612H3887H2530H3944H3684H8130H1847 23"Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.H7725H8433H5042H7307H3045H1697 24"Because I called, and you refused; I stretched out my hand, and no one paid attention;H7121H3985H5186H3027H7181 25And you neglected all my counsel, And did not want my reproof;H6544H6098H14H8433 26I will even laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,H7832H343H3932H6343H935 27When your dread comes like a storm, And your calamity comes on like a whirlwind, When distress [and] anguish come on you.H6343H935H7722H7584H343H857H5492H6869H6695H935 28"Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me,H7121H6030H7836H4672 29Because they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of the LORD.H8130H1847H977H3374H3068 30"They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof.H14H6098H5006H8433 31"So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, And be satiated with their own devices.H398H6529H1870H7646H4156 32"For the waywardness of the naive shall kill them, And the complacency of fools shall destroy them.H4878H6612H2026H7962H3684H6 33"But he who listens to me shall live securely, And shall be at ease from the dread of evil."H8085H7931H983H7599H6343H7451
