Ruth Meets Boaz

2Now Naomi had a kinsman on her husband's side, a prominent rich man, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.H5281H4129H3045H376H1368H376H2428H4940H458H8034H1162 2And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, "Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain, behind someone in whose sight I may find favor." She said to her, "Go, my daughter."H7327H4125H559H5281H3212H7704H3950H7641H310H5869H4672H2580H559H3212H1323 3So she went. She came and gleaned in the field behind the reapers. As it happened, she came to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.H3212H935H3950H7704H310H7114H4745H7136H2513H7704H1162H4940H458 4Just then Boaz came from Bethlehem. He said to the reapers, "The LORD be with you." They answered, "The LORD bless you."H1162H935H1035H559H7114H3068H559H3068H1288 5Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, "To whom does this young woman belong?"H559H1162H5288H5324H7114H5291 6The servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, "She is the Moabite who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.H5288H5324H7114H6030H559H4125H5291H7725H5281H7704H4124 7She said, 'Please, let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the reapers.' So she came, and she has been on her feet from early this morning until now, without resting even for a moment."H559H3950H622H310H7114H6016H935H5975H227H1242H3427H4592H1004 8Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Now listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women.H559H1162H7327H8085H1323H3212H3950H312H7704H5674H1692H5291 9Keep your eyes on the field that is being reaped, and follow behind them. I have ordered the young men not to bother you. If you get thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn."H5869H7704H7114H1980H310H6680H5288H5060H6770H1980H3627H8354H5288H7579 10Then she fell prostrate, with her face to the ground, and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take notice of me, when I am a foreigner?"H5307H6440H7812H776H559H4672H2580H5869H5234H5237 11But Boaz answered her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before.H1162H6030H559H5046H5046H6213H2545H310H4194H376H5800H1H517H776H4138H3212H5971H3045H8543H8032 12May the LORD reward you for your deeds, and may you have a full reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!"H3068H7999H6467H8003H4909H3068H430H3478H3671H935H2620 13Then she said, "May I continue to find favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, even though I am not one of your servants."H559H4672H2580H5869H113H5162H1696H3820H8198H259H8198 14At mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here, and eat some of this bread, and dip your morsel in the sour wine." So she sat beside the reapers, and he heaped up for her some parched grain. She ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over.H1162H559H6256H400H5066H1988H398H3899H2881H6595H2558H3427H6654H7114H6642H7039H398H7646H3498 15When she got up to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, "Let her glean even among the standing sheaves, and do not reproach her.H6965H3950H1162H6680H5288H559H3950H6016H3637 16You must also pull out some handfuls for her from the bundles, and leave them for her to glean, and do not rebuke her."H7997H6653H7997H5800H3950H1605 17So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.H3950H7704H6153H2251H3950H374H8184 18She picked it up and came into the town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gleaned. Then she took out and gave her what was left over after she herself had been satisfied.H5375H935H5892H2545H7200H3950H3318H5414H3498H7648 19Her mother-in-law said to her, "Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man who took notice of you." So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, "The name of the man with whom I worked today is Boaz."H2545H559H3950H3117H375H6213H1288H5234H5046H2545H6213H559H376H8034H6213H3117H1162 20Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "Blessed be he by the LORD, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!" Naomi also said to her, "The man is a relative of ours, one of our nearest kin."H5281H559H3618H1288H3068H5800H2617H2416H4191H5281H559H376H7138H1350 21Then Ruth the Moabite said, "He even said to me, 'Stay close by my servants, until they have finished all my harvest.'"H7327H4125H559H559H1692H5288H3615H7105 22Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, "It is better, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, otherwise you might be bothered in another field."H5281H559H7327H3618H2896H1323H3318H5291H6293H312H7704 23So she stayed close to the young women of Boaz, gleaning until the end of the barley and wheat harvests; and she lived with her mother-in-law.H1692H5291H1162H3950H3615H8184H7105H2406H7105H3427H2545
