Ruth Gleans in Boaz’ Field

2Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.H5281H4129H3045H376H1368H376H2428H4940H458H8034H1162 2And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor." And she said to her, "Go, my daughter."H7327H4125H559H5281H3212H7704H3950H7641H310H5869H4672H2580H559H3212H1323 3So she departed and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.H3212H935H3950H7704H310H7114H4745H7136H2513H7704H1162H4940H458 4Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, "May the LORD be with you." And they said to him, "May the LORD bless you."H1162H935H1035H559H7114H3068H559H3068H1288 5Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, "Whose young woman is this?"H559H1162H5288H5324H7114H5291 6And the servant in charge of the reapers answered and said, "She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab.H5288H5324H7114H6030H559H4125H5291H7725H5281H7704H4124 7"And she said, 'Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.' Thus she came and has remained from the morning until now; she has been sitting in the house for a little while."H559H3950H622H310H7114H6016H935H5975H227H1242H3427H4592H1004 8Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen carefully, my daughter. Do not go to glean in another field; furthermore, do not go on from this one, but stay here with my maids.H559H1162H7327H8085H1323H3212H3950H312H7704H5674H1692H5291 9"Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Indeed, I have commanded the servants not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go to the water jars and drink from what the servants draw."H5869H7704H7114H1980H310H6680H5288H5060H6770H1980H3627H8354H5288H7579 10Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your sight that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?"H5307H6440H7812H776H559H4672H2580H5869H5234H5237 11And Boaz answered and said to her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband has been fully reported to me, and how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you did not previously know.H1162H6030H559H5046H5046H6213H2545H310H4194H376H5800H1H517H776H4138H3212H5971H3045H8543H8032 12"May the LORD reward your work, and your wages be full from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge."H3068H7999H6467H8003H4909H3068H430H3478H3671H935H2620 13Then she said, "I have found favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me and indeed have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants."H559H4672H2580H5869H113H5162H1696H3820H8198H259H8198 14And at mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here, that you may eat of the bread and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar." So she sat beside the reapers; and he served her roasted grain, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left.H1162H559H6256H400H5066H1988H398H3899H2881H6595H2558H3427H6654H7114H6642H7039H398H7646H3498 15When she rose to glean, Boaz commanded his servants, saying, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not insult her.H6965H3950H1162H6680H5288H559H3950H6016H3637 16"And also you shall purposely pull out for her [some grain] from the bundles and leave [it] that she may glean, and do not rebuke her."H7997H6653H7997H5800H3950H1605 17So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.H3950H7704H6153H2251H3950H374H8184 18And she took [it] up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She also took [it] out and gave Naomi what she had left after she was satisfied.H5375H935H5892H2545H7200H3950H3318H5414H3498H7648 19Her mother-in-law then said to her, "Where did you glean today and where did you work? May he who took notice of you be blessed." So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, "The name of the man with whom I worked today is Boaz."H2545H559H3950H3117H375H6213H1288H5234H5046H2545H6213H559H376H8034H6213H3117H1162 20And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "May he be blessed of the LORD who has not withdrawn his kindness to the living and to the dead." Again Naomi said to her, "The man is our relative, he is one of our closest relatives."H5281H559H3618H1288H3068H5800H2617H2416H4191H5281H559H376H7138H1350 21Then Ruth the Moabitess said, "Furthermore, he said to me, 'You should stay close to my servants until they have finished all my harvest.'"H7327H4125H559H559H1692H5288H3615H7105 22And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, "It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maids, lest [others] fall upon you in another field."H5281H559H7327H3618H2896H1323H3318H5291H6293H312H7704 23So she stayed close by the maids of Boaz in order to glean until the end of the barley harvest and the wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.H1692H5291H1162H3950H3615H8184H7105H2406H7105H3427H2545
