Ruth’s Appeal to Boaz

3Ruth's mother-in-law Naomi said to her, "My daughter, shouldn't I find security for you, so that you will be taken care of?H5281H2545H559H1323H1245H4494H3190 2Now isn't Boaz our relative? Haven't you been working with his young women? This evening he will be winnowing barley on the threshing floor.H1162H4130H5291H2219H8184H3915H1637 3Wash, put on [perfumed] oil, and wear your [best] clothes. Go down to the threshing floor, but don't let the man know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.H7364H5480H7760H8071H3381H1637H3045H376H3615H398H8354 4When he lies down, notice the place where he's lying, go in and uncover his feet, and lie down. Then he will explain to you what you should do."H7901H3045H4725H7901H935H1540H4772H7901H5046H6213 5So [Ruth] said to her, "I will do everything you say."H559H559H6213 6She went down [to] the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law had instructed her.H3381H1637H6213H2545H6680 7After Boaz ate, drank, and was in good spirits, he went to lie down at the end of the pile of barley. Then she went in secretly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.H1162H398H8354H3820H3190H935H7901H7097H6194H935H3909H1540H4772H7901 8At midnight, Boaz was startled, turned over, and there lying at his feet was a woman!H2677H3915H376H2729H3943H802H7901H4772 9So he asked, "Who are you?" "I am Ruth, your slave," she replied. "Spread your cloak over me, for you are a family redeemer."H559H559H7327H519H6566H3671H519H1350 10Then he said, "May the LORD bless you, my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before, because you have not pursued younger men, whether rich or poor.H559H1288H3068H1323H3190H2617H314H7223H3212H310H1115H970H1800H6223 11Now don't be afraid, my daughter. I will do for you whatever you say, since all the people in my town know that you are a woman of noble character.H1323H3372H6213H559H8179H5971H3045H2428H802 12Yes, it is true that I am a family redeemer, but there is a redeemer closer than I am.H551H1350H3426H1350H7138 13Stay [here] tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to redeem you, [that's] good. Let him redeem [you]. But if he doesn't want to redeem you, as the LORD lives, I will. Now, lie down until morning."H3885H3915H1242H1350H2896H1350H2654H1350H1350H3068H2416H7901H1242 14So she lay down at his feet until morning but got up while it was still dark. Then Boaz said, "Don't let it be known that a woman came to the threshing floor."H7901H4772H1242H6965H2958H376H5234H7453H559H3045H802H935H1637 15And he told [Ruth], "Bring the shawl you're wearing and hold it out." When she held it out, he shoveled six [measures] of barley into her shawl, and she went into the city.H559H3051H4304H270H270H4058H8337H8184H7896H935H5892 16She went to her mother-in-law, Naomi, who asked [her], "How did it go, my daughter?" Then Ruth told her everything the man had done for her.H935H2545H559H1323H5046H376H6213 17She said, "He gave me these six [measures] of barley, because he said, 'Don't go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.'"H559H8337H8184H5414H559H935H7387H2545 18"Wait, my daughter," she said, "until you find out how things go, for he won't rest unless he resolves this today."H559H3427H1323H3045H1697H5307H376H8252H518H3615H1697H3117
