Ruth and Boaz Marry

4Boaz went to the gate [of the town] and sat down there. Soon, the family redeemer Boaz had spoken about came by. Boaz called him by name and said, "Come over here and sit down." So he went over and sat down.H5927H1162H5927H8179H3427H1350H1162H1696H5674H559H1945H6423H492H5493H3427H5493H3427 2Then Boaz took 10 men of the city's elders and said, "Sit here." And they sat down.H3947H6235H582H2205H5892H559H3427H3427 3He said to the redeemer, "Naomi, who has returned from the land of Moab, is selling a piece of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech.H559H1350H5281H7725H7704H4124H4376H2513H7704H251H458 4I thought I should inform you: Buy [it] back in the presence of those seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you want to redeem [it], do so. But if you do not want to redeem [it], tell me, so that I will know, because there isn't anyone other than you to redeem [it], and I am next after you." "I want to redeem [it]," he answered.H559H1540H241H559H7069H3427H2205H5971H1350H1350H1350H5046H3045H1350H2108H310H559H1350 5Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the land from Naomi, you will also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the deceased man, to perpetuate the man's name on his property."H559H1162H3117H7069H7704H3027H5281H7069H7327H4125H802H4191H6965H8034H4191H5159 6The redeemer replied, "I can't redeem [it] myself, or I will ruin my [own] inheritance. Take my right of redemption, because I can't redeem it."H1350H559H3201H1350H7843H5159H1350H1353H3201H1350 7At an earlier period in Israel, a man removed his sandal and gave [it] to the other party in order to make any matter [legally] binding concerning the right of redemption or the exchange of property. This was [the method of] legally binding a transaction in Israel.H6440H3478H1353H8545H6965H1697H376H8025H5275H5414H7453H8584H3478 8So the redeemer removed his sandal and said to Boaz, "Buy back [the property] yourself."H1350H559H1162H7069H8025H5275 9Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses today that I am buying from Naomi everything that belonged to Elimelech, Chilion, and Mahlon.H1162H559H2205H5971H5707H3117H7069H458H3630H4248H3027H5281 10I will also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, to perpetuate the deceased man's name on his property, so that his name will not disappear among his relatives or from the gate of his home. You are witnesses today."H7327H4125H802H4248H7069H802H6965H8034H4191H5159H8034H4191H3772H5973H251H8179H4725H5707H3117 11The elders and all the people who were at the gate said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is entering your house like Rachel and Leah, who together built the house of Israel. May you be powerful in Ephrathah and famous in Bethlehem.H5971H8179H2205H559H5707H3068H5414H802H935H1004H7354H3812H8147H1129H1004H3478H6213H2428H672H7121H8034H1035 12May your house become like the house of Perez, the son Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring the LORD will give you by this young woman."H1004H1004H6557H8559H3205H3063H2233H3068H5414H5291 13Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he was intimate with her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.H1162H3947H7327H802H935H3068H5414H2032H3205H1121 14Then the women said to Naomi, "Praise the LORD, who has not left you without a family redeemer today. May his name be famous in Israel.H802H559H5281H1288H3068H7673H3117H1350H8034H7121H3478 15He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. Indeed, your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him."H7725H5315H3557H7872H3618H157H2896H7651H1121H3205 16Naomi took the child, placed him on her lap, and took care of him.H5281H3947H3206H7896H2436H539 17The neighbor women said, "A son has been born to Naomi," and they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.H7934H7121H8034H559H1121H3205H5281H7121H8034H5744H1H3448H1H1732
