Boaz Redeems Ruth

4Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, "Come aside, friend, sit down here." So he came aside and sat down.H5927H1162H5927H8179H3427H1350H1162H1696H5674H559H1945H6423H492H5493H3427H5493H3427 2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, "Sit down here." So they sat down.H3947H6235H582H2205H5892H559H3427H3427 3Then he said to the close relative, "Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, sold the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech.H559H1350H5281H7725H7704H4124H4376H2513H7704H251H458 4"And I thought to inform you, saying, 'Buy it back in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am next after you.'" And he said, "I will redeem it."H559H1540H241H559H7069H3427H2205H5971H1350H1350H1350H5046H3045H1350H2108H310H559H1350 5Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance."H559H1162H3117H7069H7704H3027H5281H7069H7327H4125H802H4191H6965H8034H4191H5159 6And the close relative said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it."H1350H559H3201H1350H7843H5159H1350H1353H3201H1350 7Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel.H6440H3478H1353H8545H6965H1697H376H8025H5275H5414H7453H8584H3478 8Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself." So he took off his sandal.H1350H559H1162H7069H8025H5275 9And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi.H1162H559H2205H5971H5707H3117H7069H458H3630H4248H3027H5281 10"Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day."H7327H4125H802H4248H7069H802H6965H8034H4191H5159H8034H4191H3772H5973H251H8179H4725H5707H3117 11And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.H5971H8179H2205H559H5707H3068H5414H802H935H1004H7354H3812H8147H1129H1004H3478H6213H2428H672H7121H8034H1035 12"May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the LORD will give you from this young woman."H1004H1004H6557H8559H3205H3063H2233H3068H5414H5291

Descendants of Boaz and Ruth

13So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.H1162H3947H7327H802H935H3068H5414H2032H3205H1121 14Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel!H802H559H5281H1288H3068H7673H3117H1350H8034H7121H3478 15"And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him."H7725H5315H3557H7872H3618H157H2896H7651H1121H3205 16Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him.H5281H3947H3206H7896H2436H539 17Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "There is a son born to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.H7934H7121H8034H559H1121H3205H5281H7121H8034H5744H1H3448H1H1732 18Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron;H8435H6557H6557H3205H2696 19Hezron begot Ram, and Ram begot Amminadab;H2696H3205H7410H7410H3205H5992 20Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon;H5992H3205H5177H5177H3205H8009 21Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed;H8012H3205H1162H1162H3205H5744 22Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.H5744H3205H3448H3448H3205H1732
