48. What to do when family members don’t want to hear you talk about the Gospel or anything related to God and faith?

Answer

Thank you for your excellent question.

Your question applies to places of work, study, and anywhere else where God may place us.

Today, speaking about faith is taboo in many places. Talk about it at work, and HR may warn you and take further action if warranted.

Today, people are encouraged to believe what they want and to welcome others to do the same. It is called individualism, where even today's business caters to what individuals think and want. As a result of such culture, people don't want to hear anyone tell them about the truth. Besides, they may say, "truth is all relative. What I believe is true as much as what you believe."

So the answer to your question is to wait for the opportunity instead of forcing people to hear when they may not be ready for it. 2Timothy 4:2 says, "Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching." So allow God to provide you the opportunity and be ready to share when He does.

In the meanwhile, show your faith by how you live. Let others see through you the love, compassion, and mercy that God has shown you so that they may be able to ask you about your faith when they are ready. Do the same in work, school, or wherever God may have called you as a poor representation of Christ will quickly turn off many people, and they would not come to you when they want to know about God. Practice godliness, and in time, God will open doors. At the same time, pray for your family and ask God to be receptive to the Gospel when you share.

Many Blessings!

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
