Question

72. If someone tells me that the bible is just a reading ordinary book, written down by humans, how can I convince that person that it is the Word of God?

Answer

In many ways, it will take experience that leads to faith to believe in God and His Word. I can give you some ideas to "prove" that God loves you, but without your truly knowing it firsthand, my scientific logic will fail to demonstrate a God you cannot see. In the same way, Christians recognize the Scriptures in its 66 books as the inspired Word of God that is conclusive and exhaustive.

2Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
16All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

So, how can you demonstrate that the 66 books were correctly chosen by the Jewish and Christian councils before 400 AD? You can't with human logic. We need faith to believe that God intended to share what He wanted us to know, and we can trust Him because He would not have done all He has shown in the Scriptures without letting us know what matters.

What is it that matters? It's God who saves, and it is through faith in Jesus Christ. God's provision for us to have a relationship with Him is written throughout the Scriptures, that is, within the 66 books of Scriptures.

So then, how can you convince someone that God is genuinely there and has shown how much He loves us? It is through your love and by the way you live.

1John 4:20-21 (NLT)
20If someone says, "I love God," but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters.

Do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe that God loves you and walks with you through every step of your life? Do you trust Him with all of your future and rest knowing that God will take care of your needs? Demonstrate that life over time as you spend time with others, and they will see God's love for them through you.

When God encounters them personally, they will know how much He loves them, just as you and I know. His Word will make sense, and they will come to faith in His Word. It must begin with God; only He can help us to see and believe (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
