Here starts the letter of Paul to a young Christian leader named Timothy. You will see that just like any of us who want to live for the Lord, Timothy felt much pressure from his culture, his peers, and his environment. In that place, Paul encourages Timothy to live right, and may we also aim to do the same.
As you read, also consider the concept of Church. How should we be as a whole?
Verses 4-6, 19. In your conversations, let there be testimonies of how God is doing amazing things in your life and your circumstances. For this to happen, you must also be growing in your relationship with God, and in your knowledge of the Word. Without them, you would have no testimonies to share because you would be attributing all your activities and results to yourself without acknowledging God.
Verses 12-14. As we grow, let us never forget the grace that we have received. Know that Paul can boast about his scholarships and his all his past training and experience, but he does not, and rather points to Jesus, His grace, and what He has done.
We too are well equipped simply because of who He is and His acceptance of us into His family. When confused about life or feeling weak and powerless, know that He has given us the strength to do His work. It is not about us, but His strength that is in us. Trust and follow.
1This letter is from Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, appointed by the command of God our Savior and Christ Jesus, who gives us hope. 4Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God. 5The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. 6But some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions. 12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him, 13even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. 14Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. 19Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
