Business leadership vs God leadership.
The failure of Ahab is that he did not ask God to hear Him. Ahab did not fear God, especially in a time when people did not seek the Lord.
Ahab is shown as a prudent and knowledgeable business leader as he surveyed the scene and decided to surrender to the king of Aram, but when the second set of demands came, he confered with the elders, choosing not to give in.
Yet, the battle was not won because of his business strategy—it was won because God enabled it!
The right response would be to keep asking God and to do as He directs, but Ahab fails to put God first and makes his business decision.
When our culture often neglects God, it is easy for “Christian leaders” to rely on human wisdom thinking it is the better way. It is more rare to have people like Elijah who had faith when many would not. We should be mindful today that we can easily be like Ahab and bring many people to ruim by relying on our own wisdom.
Let’s go to God, bow before His will, and follow Him.
Let’s ask Him for all our decisions.
33The men took this as a good sign and quickly picked up on his words. “Yes,” they said, “your brother Ben-hadad!” “Go and get him,” the king of Israel told them. And when Ben-hadad arrived, Ahab invited him up into his chariot. 34Ben-hadad told him, “I will give back the towns my father took from your father, and you may establish places of trade in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” Then Ahab said, “I will release you under these conditions.” So they made a new treaty, and Ben-hadad was set free. 42The prophet said to him, “This is what the LORD says: Because you have spared the man I said must be destroyed, now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people.” 43So the king of Israel went home to Samaria angry and sullen.
