Such love has no fear
No fear because of love points to acceptance. Here, there are two persons involved... one who accepts and another to feel accepted. Both are required to drive out fear. There is an interplay between them that requires time to trust.
First, a Christian must welcome and accept others as they are. The key to this is to not be proud, or be humble. As long as there is pride that one is better than the other, there will be less acceptance of the other person. When we recognize that we are all the same in the eyes of God... that is, loved and accepted as a child of God... can we love the person.
Second, the person receiving the love must learn to feel acceptance, and this requires time in the relationship. This is the same between people and the same between God and us. We need to feel accepted by God before we can set out to do what He calls us to. In the same way, we may need time with one another before we can speak out of trust and recognize we are accepted despite the many flaws.
God calls us to be like Him in showing mercy, grace and love. Our living like Him demonstrates Him to other people in this world, and they too may learn acceptance because of the life we model.
At the same time, let us also learn acceptance among one another and with God.
17And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19We love each other because he loved us first.
