I'm grateful for today's reading.
Accidentally, I had the setting on NKJV, and one of words stood out to me. Jehoshaphat “feared”... (v. 3, NKJV)
What do we do when we hear of news that shock us and put us in fear?
What do we do when we face times of trouble, or have thoughts of worries of life, future, or what we need to do?
Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, and as the king (perhaps you too, as the father, or leaders in your organizations), he declared everyone to do the same by declaring a fast.
We can see the results of his actions. The attackers were ruined, and fear of the Lord was on all countries giving Jehoshaphat peace for 25 years of his reign.
I also found interesting the reason for our worship. When we sing together in church, it is not meaningless. It is beyond a love song to God, it is how we win wars. Verse 22 seems to be like when Moses raised his staff so Israel would win the battle (back in Exodus). Likewise, when we sing praises, God intervenes and we would face victories all around us.
3Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the LORD for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. 21After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the LORD; his faithful love endures forever!” 22At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. 29When all the surrounding kingdoms heard that the LORD himself had fought against the enemies of Israel, the fear of God came over them. 30So Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.
