Scripture Reflection by Sang Sur on Job 16:19-21 posted August 12, 2022 - Prayer Tents

Jesus mediates for us.
Mediator is like an attorney who defends (shows the rightness of) his/her clients. Even clients who have done no wrong may have a problem in the court room. They may know the law and be certain they were in their legal right, but if their "rightness" cannot be communicated in the process of the courtroom, they may be found guilty. For example, would a client know when to present the evidence? If s/he misses that opportunity or doesn't know that the evidence must be provided before the judgment, the client, no matter how right s/he may be, has no leg to stand on. That is why we need attorneys who know the court system to represent those who do not.
Job was seeking that mediator. In his case, someone to make his situation known to the Judge.
Today, we have a mediator, someone who defends our case before God. Jesus is known to bring the most guilty people to be found innocent before the Judge. The truth is, Jesus changed the process of the heavenly court system. Anyone whom Jesus defends is considered holy and righteous before God and would be found innocent.
Job may have been found guilty if his request was granted. For us, we have the certainty of being found right and innocent because of what Jesus has done. Something to be thankful for.
19Even now my witness is in heaven. My advocate is there on high. 20My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God. 21I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends.
