Ordinary men without education transformed by spending time with Jesus.
This verse has many deep messages.
1. When we feel like we do not measure up to do great things for the Lord, we are missing the view of God. Our creator made us and caused us to be born on earth at the time we were born because He had a great plan to accomplish through and with us. The people who were seen as normal (Perhaps even less than normal) as Peter and John were doing great things. We can too, and it is not dependent on our education or experiences.
2. The ordinary people were developed over time by spending time with Jesus. To take part in the great things God is doing, we need to grow with Him. It is called discipleship, and it involves growing with others who love God. How is your involvement in the Church?
3. Bold courage can be seen as unstoppable faith. When David saw Goliath, he had bold courage. When Abraham was called to kill his son, he had bold courage doing it with belief that God may resurrect Isaac or do something better than he imagined. Bold courage may be stepping up to Pharoah when your life may be at stake. Can we have such bold faith? We can only develop this faith as we grow in discipleship spending time with God and others.
Can what John and Peter did, such as raising the dead, healing the sick, and influencing ten-thousands be any of us?
13The council members were astonished as they witnessed the bold courage of Peter and John, especially when they discovered that they were just ordinary men who had never had religious training. Then they began to understand the effect Jesus had on them simply by spending time with him.
