Scripture Reflection by Sang Sur on Proverbs 1:3,4,23 posted May 30, 2013 - Prayer Tents

Sang's prayer for the group: Holy God, so we have begun a group reading and reflection of your Word. First thing that begins here is about your desire to give us wisdom, that we would turn to you to live successful lives.
I have to admit, none of us really have it together. The people that have joined this group are people that are currently working. From my conversations with each of them, work is very draining, and we are so stressed out and have no energy to expend on anything outside of it.
Some of us have families to care for, but because we are so drained in our work places, we have no time for that . . . some of us want to put more effort into advancing your kingdom, especially in our nascent ministry—but we are so drained from the things of the day that we simply cannot. Lord, it is here, in the midst of all our struggles that we come to you and ask for wisdom. You say in your Word that the purpose of Proverbs is to teach us to live “disciplined and successful lives” (v. 3)—to help us do “what is right, just, and fair.” We admit that we are “simple” and “young”, and we ask that you lead us to path of success.
For one thing, the times today, especially with the economy, it is stressful everywhere. There are many that cannot even find jobs, and for those that are fortunate to have jobs, they are expected to bring herculean results on a daily basis; and to start a business is no easy matter either in this current state. In this environment that we are in, as your children, we ask that you lead us, guide us—and walk with us—in the path of wisdom, in the path of discipline, in the path of success.
And so Lord, this is why we have taken on this study together. Lord, would you come mightily and deliver each one of us. Let there be satisfaction in our individual lives, our direct relationship with you, in our families, and in our workplaces because your guiding light will enable us to endure and take the right paths that is best for our lives.
Lord, we trust you and believe there is nothing that is impossible for you. Lord, we cling to your promise in verse 23—we will “come and listen to my[Your] counsel. I[You]’ll share my[Your] heart with you[us] and make you[us] wise.” We thank you, and believe you will make this happen. We look forward to how you will impact our lives during the next 31 days of our study of Proverbs. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
3Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. 23Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.

"tremendous sense of holy" or "great fear" comes by the grace of God. We need this more today, and only God can provide this.

Slipping away from busy days. The more busy and hectic work becomes, the more we must practice slipping away and spending time with God. That's what Jesus practiced and modeled for us.
