Today's passage speaks of many things, and it is in line with the recurring theme in Proverbs—be diligent, be capable, and be trustworthy.
Verse 2. Be diligent in seeking the Lord and receive joy as you uncover what God has in store for you (His progressive plans for your life, which is for your good, the best path for your life)
Verse 5. This verse is something that may be difficult for newer Christians to understand—but God of love does maintain order and administration—the God of mercy does make a cut to separate from those that have not turned away (repented) from their sins. This is also wisdom for church leadership.
Verses 6-7. This proverb is telling us to live diligently so that others may notice the value we can bring to others. I find this verse to be scary, especially in light of today's times. We are taught to stand up for ourselves, and demonstrate that we are worthy (consider submitting resumes in a competitive market—can any of us sit and wait as we hope for an employer to call us in based on our character and our abilities?).
Verse 19. Let us be trustworthy and do the things we say.
Verse 21-22. This is the same teaching of Jesus. We are not to just put up an act to pretend to love our enemies, but it is also a wise act to turn such people into friends.
Verse 28. We need to be disciplined to receive the future rewards, not just do whatever pleasures us at the moment that brings us to ruin (a recurring them in Proverbs)
2It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them. 5Remove the wicked from the king’s court, and his reign will be made secure by justice. 6Don’t demand an audience with the king or push for a place among the great. 7It’s better to wait for an invitation to the head table than to be sent away in public disgrace. Just because you’ve seen something, 19Putting confidence in an unreliable person in times of trouble is like chewing with a broken tooth or walking on a lame foot. 21If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. 22You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the Lord will reward you. 28A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
