Verse 2. Grace and peace is used in a greeting. It shows how much each of us need it. Grace means to be forgiven even though we are undeserving.
Peace. We would think there is lack of peace only due to a recent phenomenon of technology and a fast paced world. However, people throughout the years have been in worries, fears, and lack of peace. We too can become this way.
Yet, with grace (being completely forgiven and having our past wrongs being taken away), we can be at peace (oneness, stillness, and being at rest) because of what Jesus has done.
Verse 6. God has an amazing, out-of-this-world, plans for each of our lives, and we know He will continue his discipline, train, and guide until we fulfill His plans for us.
Verses 9-11. What really matters is that our love overflows and that we keep growing (in knowledge and understanding/wisdom), that we may live pure and blameless lives. We can rely on the fruit of salvation (grace and peace), and be centered on Him (character) through our lives. This will bring much glory and praise to God.
Verse 20-22. My personal prayer: not just in the church, but in the workplace, within friends, when I go out to lunch with co-workers, may my life be a living representation of my great Lord and King. It is while I live that I can demonstrate this by the way I live, by the way I trust.
Verse 27-28. Our lives matter! Let us live in a manner that is worthy of the Good News about Christ. That is:
1. The way we live matters.
2. We must stand together with one spirit and purpose (trust in God's hierarchy, listen/obey the leaders God has set before you)
3. Fight together for faith. Be accountable and rebuke one another where needed (between believers). Help each other to remain faithful
4. Don't be afraid or fear, especially those who oppose you as you stand to do the will of God.
2May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 6And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. 9I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. 11May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God. 20For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. 21For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. 27Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. 28Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.
