Reading verse 11, I began to wonder, where do I fit in?
Could I be the one who does harm, the one who is vile, the one who is righteous, or the one who is holy?
Then began my thoughts about my shortcomings of matching the holiness of our God. When I think about righteousness, that is being right with God and others, I surely fail in many places and do not measure up.
Fortunately, the Gospel of grace simply says to come, and He will wash off our filth and enable us to be holy and righteous simply because of who He is, and what He has done.
Verse 17 is so comforting: we just need to come, and we can come thirsty—and He will fill us with water of life.
11Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.” 14Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. 17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
