Being different to be recognized as a person of God. Covering for the Church.
Two interesting points here.
1. Elisha was distinguished from others as a holy man of God. Holy, meaning different, he was known to be someone who walked with God. So much, that a person welcomed him whenever he passed by her neighborhood, even to build a room for him to rest in her own home. Our lives, too, must be different so that others may come to us to know and hear from God.
2. God used a wealthy person to provide for the people of God. If God has called us to the marketplace, and has given us responsibilities over resources, we are also called to support the Church. Trust Him for the resources, and give what you have. He will provide us with more.
8One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat. 9She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. 10Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.” 11One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest.
