Kings of Israel: Jehoahaz and Jehoash

13In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel at Samaria, [and he reigned] seventeen years.H7969H8141H6242H8141H3101H1121H274H4428H3063H3059H1121H3058H4427H3478H8111H7651H6240H81412And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel sin; he did not turn from them.H6213H7451H5869H3068H3212H310H2403H3379H1121H5028H3478H2398H54933So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them continually into the hand of Hazael king of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael.H639H3068H2734H3478H5414H3027H2371H4428H758H3027H1130H1121H2371H31174Then Jehoahaz entreated the favor of the LORD, and the LORD listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Aram oppressed them.H3059H2470H3068H3068H8085H6440H7200H3906H3478H4428H758H39055And the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Arameans; and the sons of Israel lived in their tents as formerly.H3068H5414H3478H3467H3318H3027H758H1121H3478H3427H168H8032H85436Nevertheless they did not turn away from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained standing in Samaria.H5493H2403H1004H3379H3478H2398H1980H5975H842H81117For he left to Jehoahaz of the army not more than fifty horsemen and ten chariots and 100000 footmen, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.H7604H5971H3059H2572H6571H6235H7393H6235H505H7273H4428H758H6H7760H6083H17588Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?H3499H1697H3059H6213H1369H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H34789And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his son became king in his place.H3059H7901H1H6912H8111H3101H1121H442710In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, became king over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] sixteen years.H7970H8141H7651H8141H3101H4428H3063H3060H1121H3059H4427H3478H8111H8337H6240H814111And he did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel sin, but he walked in them.H6213H7451H5869H3068H5493H2403H3379H1121H5028H3478H2398H198012Now the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?H3499H1697H3101H6213H1369H3898H558H4428H3063H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H347813So Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.H3101H7901H1H3379H3427H3678H3101H6912H8111H4428H3478

Death of Elisha

14When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!"H477H2470H2483H4191H3101H4428H3478H3381H1058H6440H559H1H1H7393H3478H657115And Elisha said to him, "Take a bow and arrows." So he took a bow and arrows.H477H559H3947H7198H2671H3947H7198H267116Then he said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." And he put his hand [on it,] then Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands.H559H4428H3478H7392H3027H7198H7392H3027H477H7760H3027H4428H302717And he said, "Open the window toward the east," and he opened [it.] Then Elisha said, "Shoot!" And he shot. And he said, "The Lord's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Aram; for you shall defeat the Arameans at Aphek until you have destroyed [them."]H559H6605H2474H6924H6605H477H559H3384H3384H559H2671H3068H8668H2671H8668H758H5221H758H663H361518Then he said, "Take the arrows," and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground," and he struck [it] three times and stopped.H559H3947H2671H3947H559H4428H3478H5221H776H5221H7969H6471H597519So the man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struck five or six times, then you would have struck Aram until you would have destroyed [it.] But now you shall strike Aram [only] three times."H376H430H7107H559H5221H2568H8337H6471H5221H758H3615H5221H758H7969H647120And Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year.H477H4191H6912H1416H4124H935H776H935H814121And as they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet.H6912H376H7200H1416H7993H376H6913H477H376H3212H5060H6106H477H2421H6965H727222Now Hazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.H2371H4428H758H3905H3478H3117H305923But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them and turned to them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence until now.H3068H2603H7355H6437H4616H1285H85H3327H3290H14H7843H7993H6440H570424When Hazael king of Aram died, Ben-hadad his son became king in his place.H2371H4428H758H4191H1130H1121H442725Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.H3060H1121H3059H3947H7725H3027H1130H1121H2371H5892H3947H3027H3059H1H4421H7969H6471H3101H5221H7725H5892H3478
