Isaiah 1
New Living Translation Help
1These are the visions that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. He saw these visions during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah.H2377H3470H1121H531H2372H3063H3389H3117H5818H3147H271H3169H4428H3063

A Message for Rebellious Judah

2Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the Lord says. “The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me.H8085H8064H238H776H3068H1696H1431H7311H1121H6586 3Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.”H7794H3045H7069H2543H1167H18H3478H3045H5971H995 4Oh, what a sinful nation they are—loaded down with a burden of guilt. They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the Lord. They have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.H1945H2398H1471H5971H3515H5771H2233H7489H1121H7843H5800H853H3068H5006H853H6918H3478H5006H2114H268 5Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever? Your head is injured, and your heart is sick.H5221H5627H3254H7218H2483H3824H1742 6You are battered from head to foot—covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds—without any soothing ointments or bandages.H3709H7272H7218H4974H6482H2250H2961H4347H2115H2280H7401H8081 7Your country lies in ruins, and your towns are burned. Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes and destroy everything they see.H776H8077H5892H8313H784H127H2114H398H8077H4114H2114 8Beautiful Jerusalem stands abandoned like a watchman’s shelter in a vineyard, like a lean-to in a cucumber field after the harvest, like a helpless city under siege.H1323H6726H3498H5521H3754H4412H4750H5341H5892 9If the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had not spared a few of us, we would have been wiped out like Sodom, destroyed like Gomorrah.H3884H3068H6635H3498H4592H8300H1961H5467H1819H6017 10Listen to the Lord, you leaders of “Sodom.” Listen to the law of our God, people of “Gomorrah.”H8085H1697H3068H7101H5467H238H8451H430H5971H6017 11“What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?” says the Lord. “I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle. I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.H4100H7230H2077H559H3068H7646H5930H352H2459H4806H2654H1818H6499H3532H6260 12When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony?H935H7200H6440H1245H3027H7429H2691 13Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! As for your celebrations of the new moon and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting—they are all sinful and false. I want no more of your pious meetings.H935H3254H7723H4503H7004H8441H2320H7676H7121H4744H3201H205H6116 14I hate your new moon celebrations and your annual festivals. They are a burden to me. I cannot stand them!H2320H4150H5315H8130H2960H3811H5375 15When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims.H6566H3709H5956H5869H7235H8605H8085H3027H4390H1818 16Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways.H7364H2135H5493H7455H4611H5048H5869H2308H7489 17Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.H3925H3190H1875H4941H833H2541H8199H3490H7378H490 18“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.H3212H3198H559H3068H2399H8144H3835H7950H119H8438H6785 19If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.H14H8085H398H2898H776 20But if you turn away and refuse to listen, you will be devoured by the sword of your enemies. I, the Lord, have spoken!”H3985H4784H398H2719H6310H3068H1696

Unfaithful Jerusalem

21See how Jerusalem, once so faithful, has become a prostitute. Once the home of justice and righteousness, she is now filled with murderers.H539H7151H2181H4392H4941H6664H3885H7523 22Once like pure silver, you have become like worthless slag. Once so pure, you are now like watered-down wine.H3701H5509H5435H4107H4325 23Your leaders are rebels, the companions of thieves. All of them love bribes and demand payoffs, but they refuse to defend the cause of orphans or fight for the rights of widows.H8269H5637H2270H1590H157H7810H7291H8021H8199H3490H7379H490H935 24Therefore, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the Mighty One of Israel, says, “I will take revenge on my enemies and pay back my foes!H5002H113H3068H6635H46H3478H1945H5162H6862H5358H341 25I will raise my fist against you. I will melt you down and skim off your slag. I will remove all your impurities.H7725H3027H1253H6884H5509H5493H913 26Then I will give you good judges again and wise counselors like you used to have. Then Jerusalem will again be called the Home of Justice and the Faithful City.”H7725H8199H7223H3289H8462H310H7121H5892H6664H539H7151 27Zion will be restored by justice; those who repent will be revived by righteousness.H6726H6299H4941H7725H6666 28But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed, and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.H7667H6586H2400H3162H5800H3068H3615 29You will be ashamed of your idol worship in groves of sacred oaks. You will blush because you worshiped in gardens dedicated to idols.H954H352H2530H2659H1593H977 30You will be like a great tree with withered leaves, like a garden without water.H424H5929H5034H1593H4325 31The strongest among you will disappear like straw; their evil deeds will be the spark that sets it on fire. They and their evil works will burn up together, and no one will be able to put out the fire.H2634H5296H6467H5213H8147H1197H3162H3518
