Answer

Hi,

Thanks for asking such a great question.

The answer is yes, but speaking is not the most critical point. Let me explain.

When we think of testifying, witnessing, or speaking about Jesus, it has to do with words. Then, a Christian may assume they must do things to keep on speaking. For example, get a megaphone in a crowded street to proclaim the message. Though that may help, our more excellent call is to make disciples of Jesus.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

How do we make disciples of Jesus? We make disciples of Jesus by being a disciple of Jesus ourselves first and welcoming others in love. Making disciples occurs through deep relationships among one or a few people. Even though speaking can be part of a relationship, it is only a part of it.

Yet, we should also have a deep relationship with God to be ready to explain the faith that we have.

1Peter 3:15 (NLT)
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.

2Timothy 4:2, 5 (NLT)
2Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 5But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

To recap, Christians are called to speak, testify, and witness, but that is done in the context of love based on discipleship that occurs through deep relationships over time. Being a witness of Jesus is done beyond words, and that same is what God desires of us in a deep relationship with Him.

Please write back if I can support you any further.

Many blessings!
