Prologue

1I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teachG3303G4413G3056G4160G5599G2321G4012G3956G3739G2424G756G5037G4160G2532G13212until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.G891G2250G3739G353G1223G40G4151G1781G652G3739G15863After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God.G3739G2532G3936G1438G2198G3326G846G3958G1722G4183G5039G3700G846G1223G5062G2250G2532G3004G4012G932G2316

The Holy Spirit Promised

4While He was together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father's promise. "This," [He said, "is what] you heard from Me;G2532G4871G846G3853G846G5563G3361G5563G575G2414G235G4037G1860G3962G3739G191G34505for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."G3754G2491G3303G907G5204G1161G5210G907G1722G40G4151G3756G3326G4183G2250G50256So when they had come together, they asked Him, "Lord, at this time are You restoring the kingdom to Israel?"G3303G3767G4905G1905G846G3004G2962G1487G600G1722G5129G5550G600G932G24747He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority.G1161G2036G4314G846G2076G3756G5216G1097G5550G2228G2540G3739G3962G5087G1722G2398G18498But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."G235G2983G1411G40G4151G1904G1909G5209G2532G2071G3144G3427G5037G1722G2419G2532G1722G3956G2449G2532G4540G2532G2193G2078G1093

The Ascension

9After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.G2532G2036G5023G846G991G1869G2532G3507G5274G846G575G846G378810While He was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them.G2532G5613G2258G816G1519G3772G846G4198G2532G2400G1417G435G3936G846G1722G3022G206611They said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen Him going into heaven."G3739G2532G2036G435G1057G5101G2476G1689G1519G3772G3778G2424G3588G353G575G5216G1519G3772G2064G3779G2064G3739G5158G2300G846G4198G1519G3772

United in Prayer

12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olive Grove, which is near Jerusalem— a Sabbath day's journey away.G5119G5290G1519G2419G575G3735G2564G1638G3739G2076G1451G2419G4521G2192G359813When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.G2532G3753G1525G305G1519G5253G3757G2258G2650G5037G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G406G5376G2532G2381G918G2532G3156G2385G256G2532G4613G2208G2532G2455G238514All these were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers.G3778G3956G2258G4342G3661G4335G2532G1162G4862G1135G2532G3137G3384G2424G2532G4862G846G80

Matthias Chosen

15During these days Peter stood up among the brothers— the number of people who were together was about 120— and said:G2532G1722G5025G2250G4074G450G1722G3319G3101G2036G5037G3793G3686G1909G846G2258G5613G1540G150116"Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.G435G80G5026G1124G1163G4137G3739G40G4151G1223G4750G1138G4277G4012G2455G3588G1096G3595G4815G242417For he was one of our number and was allotted a share in this ministry."G3754G2258G2674G4862G2254G2532G2975G2819G5026G124818Now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages; and falling headfirst, he burst open in the middle, and all his insides spilled out.G3303G3767G3778G2932G5564G1537G3408G93G2532G1096G4248G2997G3319G2532G3956G846G4698G163219This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.G2532G1096G1110G3956G2730G2419G5620G1565G5564G2564G846G2398G1258G184G5123G5564G12920"For it is written in the Book of Psalms: Let his dwelling become desolate; let no one live in it; and Let someone else take his position.G1063G1125G1722G976G5568G1096G846G1886G1096G2048G2532G2077G3361G2730G1722G846G2532G846G1984G2983G2087G298321"Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—G3767G5130G435G4905G2254G3956G5550G1722G3739G2962G2424G1831G1525G2532G1831G1909G224822beginning from the baptism of John until the day He was taken up from us— from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of His resurrection."G756G575G908G2491G2193G2250G3739G353G575G2257G1163G1520G1096G3144G4862G2254G846G38623So they proposed two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.G2532G2476G1417G2501G2564G923G3739G1941G2459G2532G315924Then they prayed, "You, Lord, know the hearts of all; show which of these two You have chosenG2532G4336G2036G4771G2962G2589G3956G322G3739G1520G1537G5130G1417G158625to take the place in this apostolic service that Judas left to go to his own place."G2983G2819G5026G1248G2532G651G1537G3739G2455G3845G4198G1519G2398G511726Then they cast lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was numbered with the 11 apostles.G2532G1325G846G2819G2532G2819G4098G1909G3159G2532G4785G3326G1733G652

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
