David Conquers the Philistines

8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he marched out to meet them.H6430H8085H1732H4886H4428H3478H6430H5927H1245H1732H1732H8085H3318H64409The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.H6430H935H6584H6010H749710So David asked God, "Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD replied, "Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you."H1732H7592H430H559H5927H6430H5414H3027H3068H559H5927H5414H302711So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. "God did it!" David exclaimed. "He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!" So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means "the Lord who bursts through").H5927H1188H1732H5221H1732H559H430H6555H341H3027H6556H4325H7121H8034H4725H118812The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.H5800H430H1732H559H8313H78413But after a while the Philistines returned and raided the valley again.H6430H3254H6584H601014And once again David asked God what to do. "Do not attack them straight on," God replied. "Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplarc trees.H1732H7592H430H430H559H5927H310H5437H935H4136H105715When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, go out and attack! That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army."H8085H6963H6807H7218H1057H3318H4421H430H3318H6440H5221H4264H643016So David did what God commanded, and they struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.H1732H6213H430H6680H5221H4264H6430H1391H150717So David's fame spread everywhere, and the LORD caused all the nations to fear David.H8034H1732H3318H776H3068H5414H6343H1471
