Leaders Demand a Miraculous Sign

16One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.G5330G2532G4523G4334G2532G3985G1905G846G1925G846G4592G1537G3772 2He replied, "You know the saying, `Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow;G1161G611G2036G846G1096G3798G3004G2105G1063G3772G4449 3red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.' You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don't know how to interpret the signs of the times!G2532G4404G5494G4594G1063G3772G4449G4768G5273G1097G1252G3303G4383G3772G1161G1410G3756G4592G2540 4Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah." Then Jesus left them and went away.G4190G2532G3428G1074G1934G4592G2532G3756G4592G1325G846G1508G4592G4396G2495G2532G2641G846G565

Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees

5Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread.G2532G846G3101G2064G1519G4008G1950G2983G740 6"Watch out!" Jesus warned them. "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."G1161G2424G2036G846G3708G2532G4337G575G2219G5330G2532G4523 7At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn't brought any bread.G1161G1260G1722G1438G3004G3754G2983G3756G740 8Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, "You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread?G1161G2424G1097G2036G846G3640G5101G1260G1722G1438G3754G2983G3756G740 9Don't you understand even yet? Don't you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up?G3539G3768G3539G3761G3421G4002G740G4000G2532G4214G2894G2983 10Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up?G3761G2033G740G5070G2532G4214G4711G2983 11Why can't you understand that I'm not talking about bread? So again I say, `Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'"G4459G3754G3539G3756G3539G2036G3756G5213G4012G740G4337G575G2219G5330G2532G4523 12Then at last they understood that he wasn't speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.G5119G4920G3754G2036G3756G4337G575G2219G740G235G575G1322G5330G2532G4523

Peter’s Declaration about Jesus

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"G1161G2424G2064G1519G3313G2542G5376G2065G846G3101G3004G5101G444G3004G3165G5207G444G1511 14"Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets."G1161G2036G3303G2491G910G1161G243G2243G1161G2087G2408G2228G1520G4396 15Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?"G3004G846G1161G5101G3004G5210G3165G1511 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."G1161G4613G4074G611G2036G4771G1488G5547G5207G2198G2316 17Jesus replied, "You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G3107G1488G4613G920G3754G4561G2532G129G601G3756G601G4671G235G3450G3962G3588G1722G3772 18Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means `rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.G1161G3004G2504G4671G3754G4771G1488G4074G2532G1909G5026G4073G3618G3450G1577G2532G4439G86G2729G3756G2729G846 19And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven."G2532G1325G4671G2807G932G3772G2532G3739G1437G1210G1909G1093G2071G1210G1722G3772G2532G3739G1437G3089G1909G1093G2071G3089G1722G3772 20Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.G5119G1291G846G3101G2443G2036G3367G3754G846G2076G2424G5547

Jesus Predicts His Death

21From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.G575G5119G756G2424G1166G846G3101G3754G846G1163G565G1519G2414G2532G3958G4183G575G4245G2532G749G2532G1122G2532G615G2532G1453G5154G2250 22But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. "Heaven forbid, Lord," he said. "This will never happen to you!"G2532G4074G4355G846G756G2008G846G3004G2436G4671G2962G5124G2071G3364G2071G4671 23Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's."G1161G4762G2036G4074G5217G3694G3450G4567G1488G3754G4625G3450G5426G3756G3588G2316G235G444 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.G5119G2036G2424G846G3101G1536G2309G2064G3694G3450G533G1438G2532G142G846G4716G2532G190G3427 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.G1063G3739G302G2309G4982G846G5590G622G846G1161G3739G302G622G846G5590G1752G1700G1752G2147G846 26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?G1063G5101G444G5623G1437G2770G3650G2889G1161G2210G846G5590G2228G5101G444G1325G465G846G5590 27For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.G1063G5207G444G3195G2064G1722G1391G846G3962G3326G846G32G2532G5119G591G1538G2596G846G4234 28And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."G281G3004G5213G1526G5100G2476G5602G3748G1089G3364G1089G2288G302G2193G1492G5207G444G2064G1722G846G932
