Exodus 2

The Birth of Moses

2Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi.H3212H376H1004H3878H3947H1323H38782And the woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.H802H2029H3205H1121H7200H2896H6845H7969H33913But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it, and set [it] among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.H3201H5750H6845H3947H8392H1573H2560H2564H2203H7760H3206H7760H5488H2975H81934And his sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him.H269H3320H7350H3045H62135Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, with her maidens walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it [to her.]H1323H6547H3381H7364H2975H5291H1980H2975H3027H7200H8392H8432H5488H7971H519H39476When she opened [it,] she saw the child, and behold, [the] boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."H6605H7200H3206H5288H1058H2550H559H5680H32067Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?"H559H269H6547H1323H3212H7121H3243H5680H802H3243H32068And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go [ahead]." So the girl went and called the child's mother.H6547H1323H559H3212H5959H3212H7121H3206H5179Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me and I shall give [you] your wages." So the woman took the child and nursed him.H6547H1323H559H3212H3206H3212H3243H5414H7939H802H3947H3206H513410And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she named him Moses, and said, "Because I drew him out of the water."H3206H1431H935H6547H1323H1121H7121H8034H4872H559H4871H432511Now it came about in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brethren and looked on their hard labors; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.H3117H4872H1431H3318H251H7200H5450H7200H4713H376H5221H5680H25112So he looked this way and that, and when he saw there was no one [around,] he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.H6437H3541H3541H7200H376H5221H4713H2934H234413And he went out the next day, and behold, two Hebrews were fighting with each other; and he said to the offender, "Why are you striking your companion?"H3318H8145H3117H8147H582H5680H5327H559H7563H5221H745314But he said, "Who made you a prince or a judge over us? Are you intending to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid, and said, "Surely the matter has become known."H559H7760H376H8269H8199H559H2026H2026H4713H4872H3372H559H403H1697H3045

Moses Escapes to Midian

15When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.H6547H8085H1697H1245H2026H4872H4872H1272H6440H6547H3427H776H4080H3427H87516Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came to draw water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.H3548H4080H7651H1323H935H1802H4390H7298H8248H1H662917Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.H7462H935H1644H4872H6965H3467H8248H662918When they came to Reuel their father, he said, "Why have you come [ back] so soon today?"H935H7467H1H559H4069H935H4116H311719So they said, "An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds; and what is more, he even drew the water for us and watered the flock."H559H4713H376H5337H3027H7462H1802H1802H8248H662920And he said to his daughters, "Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the man behind? Invite him to have something to eat."H559H1323H5800H376H7121H398H389921And Moses was willing to dwell with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses.H4872H2974H3427H376H5414H4872H6855H132322Then she gave birth to a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, "I have been a sojourner in a foreign land."H3205H1121H7121H8034H1647H559H1616H5237H77623Now it came about in [the course of] those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of [their] bondage rose up to God.H1992H7227H3117H4428H4714H4191H1121H3478H584H4480H5656H2199H7775H5927H430H565624So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.H430H8085H5009H430H2142H1285H85H3327H329025And God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice [of them.]H430H7200H1121H3478H430H3045

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
