Cain and Abel

4Now Adamc had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, "With the LORD's help, I have produced a man!"H120H3045H853H2332H802H2029H3205H853H7014H559H7069H376H854H30682Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel. When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground.H3254H3205H251H1893H1893H7462H6629H7014H5647H1273When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the LORD.H7093H3117H7014H935H6529H127H4503H30684Abel also brought a gift—the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his gift,H1893H1931H935H1062H6629H2459H3068H8159H1893H45035but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.H7014H4503H8159H7014H3966H2734H6440H53076"Why are you so angry?" the LORD asked Cain. "Why do you look so dejected?H3068H559H7014H2734H6440H53077You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master."H518H3190H7613H3190H2403H7257H6607H8669H49108One day Cain suggested to his brother, "Let's go out into the fields."c And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.H7014H559H413H1893H251H7704H7014H6965H413H1893H251H20269Afterward the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother? Where is Abel?" "I don't know," Cain responded. "Am I my brother's guardian?"H3068H559H7014H335H1893H251H559H3045H251H810410But the LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground!H559H4100H6213H6963H251H1818H6817H12711Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has swallowed your brother's blood.H779H127H6475H6310H3947H251H1818H302712No longer will the ground yield good crops for you, no matter how hard you work! From now on you will be a homeless wanderer on the earth."H3588H5647H127H3254H5414H3581H5128H5110H77613Cain replied to the LORD, "My punishmentc is too great for me to bear!H7014H559H3068H5771H1419H537514You have banished me from the land and from your presence; you have made me a homeless wanderer. Anyone who finds me will kill me!"H1644H3117H6440H127H5921H6440H5641H5128H5110H776H1961H4672H202615The LORD replied, "No, for I will give a sevenfold punishment to anyone who kills you." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain to warn anyone who might try to kill him.H3068H559H3651H2026H7014H5358H7659H3068H7760H226H7014H1115H4672H522116So Cain left the LORD's presence and settled in the land of Nodc, east of Eden.H7014H3318H6440H3068H3427H776H5113H6926H5731
