Habakkuk’s Prayer

3This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk.H8605H2265H5030H7692 2I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.H3068H8085H8088H3372H3068H2421H6467H7130H8141H7130H8141H3045H7267H2142H7355 3I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, the Holy One coming from Mount Paran. His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise.H433H935H8487H6918H2022H6290H5542H1935H3680H8064H776H4390H8416 4His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden.H5051H216H7161H3027H2253H5797 5Pestilence marches before him; plague follows close behind.H6440H3212H1698H7565H3318H7272 6When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the Eternal One!H5975H4128H776H7200H5425H1471H5703H2042H6327H5769H1389H7817H1979H5769 7I see the people of Cushan in distress, and the nation of Midian trembling in terror.H7200H168H3572H205H3407H776H4080H7264 8Was it in anger, Lord, that you struck the rivers and parted the sea? Were you displeased with them? No, you were sending your chariots of salvation!H3068H2734H5104H639H5104H5678H3220H7392H5483H4818H3444 9You brandished your bow and your quiver of arrows. You split open the earth with flowing rivers.H7198H6181H5783H7621H4294H562H5542H1234H776H5104 10The mountains watched and trembled. Onward swept the raging waters. The mighty deep cried out, lifting its hands to the Lord.H2022H7200H2342H2230H4325H5674H8415H5414H6963H5375H3027H7315 11The sun and moon stood still in the sky as your brilliant arrows flew and your glittering spear flashed.H8121H3394H5975H2073H216H2671H1980H5051H1300H2595 12You marched across the land in anger and trampled the nations in your fury.H6805H776H2195H1758H1471H639 13You went out to rescue your chosen people, to save your anointed ones. You crushed the heads of the wicked and stripped their bones from head to toe.H3318H3468H5971H3468H4899H4272H7218H1004H7563H6168H3247H6677H5542 14With his own weapons, you destroyed the chief of those who rushed out like a whirlwind, thinking Israel would be easy prey.H5344H4294H7218H6518H5590H6327H5951H398H6041H4565 15You trampled the sea with your horses, and the mighty waters piled high.H1869H3220H5483H2563H7227H4325 16I trembled inside when I heard this; my lips quivered with fear. My legs gave way beneath me, and I shook in terror. I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us.H8085H990H7264H8193H6750H6963H7538H935H6106H7264H5117H3117H6869H5927H5971H1464 17Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty,H8384H6524H2981H1612H4639H2132H3584H7709H6213H400H6629H1504H4356H1241H7517 18yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!H5937H3068H1523H430H3468 19The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. (For the choir director: This prayer is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.)H3069H136H2428H7760H7272H355H1869H1116H5329H5058
