But Elisha replied, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.H452H559H477H3427H3068H7971H1008H477H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H3381H10083The prophets' sons who were at Bethel came to Elisha and said, Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? He said, Yes, I know it; hold your peace.H1121H5030H1008H3318H477H559H3045H3068H3947H113H7218H3117H559H3045H28144Elijah said to him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray you, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho. But he said, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho.H452H559H477H3427H3068H7971H3405H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H935H34055The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said, Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? And he answered, Yes, I know it; hold your peace.H1121H5030H3405H5066H477H559H3045H3068H3947H113H7218H3117H559H3045H28146Elijah said to him, Tarry here, I pray you, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan. But he said, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And the two of them went on.H452H559H3427H3068H7971H3383H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H8147H32127Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood [to watch] afar off; and the two of them stood by the Jordan.H2572H376H1121H5030H1980H5975H5048H7350H8147H5975H33838And Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up and struck the waters, and they divided this way and that, so that the two of them went over on dry ground.H452H3947H155H1563H5221H4325H2673H8147H5674H27249And when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.H5674H452H559H477H7592H6213H3947H477H559H8147H6310H730710He said, You have asked a hard thing. However, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you--but if not, it shall not be so.H559H7592H7185H7200H394711As they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire parted the two of them, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.H1980H1980H1696H7393H784H5483H784H6504H8147H996H452H5927H5591H806412And Elisha saw it and he cried, My father, my father! The chariot of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.H477H7200H6817H1H1H7393H3478H6571H7200H2388H899H7167H8147H716813He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.H7311H155H452H5307H7725H5975H8193H338314And he took the mantle that fell from Elijah and struck the waters and said, Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? And when he had struck the waters, they parted this way and that, and Elisha went over.H3947H155H452H5307H5221H4325H559H3068H430H452H5221H4325H2673H477H567415When the sons of the prophets who were [watching] at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.H1121H5030H3405H7200H559H7307H452H5117H477H935H7125H7812H77616And they said to him, Behold now, there are among your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master. It may be that the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up and cast him on some mountain or into some valley. And he said, You shall not send.H559H3426H5650H2572H2428H1121H582H3212H1245H113H7307H3068H5375H7993H259H2022H259H1516H559H797117But when they urged him till he was embarrassed, he said, Send. So they sent fifty men, who sought for three days but did not find him.H6484H954H559H7971H7971H2572H376H1245H7969H3117H467218When they returned to Elisha, who had waited at Jericho, he said to them, Did I not tell you, Do not go?H7725H3427H3405H559H559H321219And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, inhabiting of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad and the locality causes miscarriage {and} barrenness [in all animals].H582H5892H559H477H4186H5892H2896H113H7200H4325H7451H776H792120He said, Bring me a new bowl and put salt [the symbol of God's purifying power] in it. And they brought it to him.H559H3947H2319H6746H7760H4417H394721Then Elisha went to the spring of the waters and cast the salt in it and said, Thus says the Lord: I [not the salt] have healed these waters; there shall not be any more death, miscarriage {or} barrenness [and bereavement] because of it.H3318H4161H4325H7993H4417H559H559H3068H7495H4325H4194H792122So the waters were healed to this day, as Elisha had said.H4325H7495H3117H1697H477H169623He went up from Jericho to Bethel. On the way, young [maturing and accountable] boys came out of the city and mocked him and said to him, Go up [in a whirlwind], you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!H5927H1008H5927H1870H3318H6996H5288H5892H7046H559H5927H7142H5927H714224And he turned around and looked at them and called a curse down on them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and ripped up forty-two of the boys.H6437H310H7200H7043H8034H3068H3318H8147H1677H3293H1234H705H8147H320625Elisha went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.H3212H2022H3760H7725H8111
