9One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases.G1161G4779G846G1427G3101G4779G2532G1325G846G1411G1849G1909G3956G1140G2532G2323G3554 2Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.G2532G649G846G2784G932G2316G2532G2390G770 3"Take nothing for your journey," he instructed them. "Don't take a walking stick, a traveler's bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes.G2532G2036G4314G846G142G3367G1519G3598G3383G4464G3383G4082G3383G740G3383G694G3383G2192G1417G5509G303 4Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town.G2532G3739G302G3614G1525G1519G1563G3306G2532G1564G1831 5And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate."G2532G3745G302G1209G3361G1209G5209G1831G575G1565G4172G660G2532G2868G575G5216G4228G1519G3142G1909G846 6So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.G1161G1831G1330G2596G2968G2097G2532G2323G3837

Herod’s Confusion

7When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about everything Jesus was doing, he was puzzled. Some were saying that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead.G1161G2264G5076G191G3956G1096G5259G846G2532G1280G1223G3004G5259G5100G3754G2491G1453G1537G3498 8Others thought Jesus was Elijah or one of the other prophets risen from the dead.G1161G5259G5100G3754G2243G5316G1161G243G3754G1520G744G4396G450 9"I beheaded John," Herod said, "so who is this man about whom I hear such stories?" And he kept trying to see him.G2532G2264G2036G2491G607G1473G607G1161G5101G2076G3778G4012G3739G1473G191G5108G2532G2212G1492G846

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

10When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida.G2532G652G5290G1334G846G3745G4160G2532G3880G846G5298G2596G2398G1519G2048G5117G4172G2564G966 11But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.G1161G3793G1097G190G846G2532G1209G846G2980G846G4012G932G2316G2532G2390G2192G5532G2322 12Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said, "Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this remote place."G1161G2250G756G2827G1161G4334G1427G2036G846G630G3793G630G2443G565G1519G2968G2532G68G2945G2647G2532G2147G1979G3754G2070G5602G1722G2048G5117 13But Jesus said, "You feed them." "But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. "Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?"G1161G2036G4314G846G1325G5210G846G5315G1161G2036G2254G3756G1526G4119G2228G4002G740G2532G1417G2486G1509G2249G4198G59G1033G1519G3956G5126G2992 14For there were about 5,000 men there. Jesus replied, "Tell them to sit down in groups of about fifty each."G1063G2258G5616G4000G435G1161G2036G4314G846G3101G2625G846G2625G303G4004G2828 15So the people all sat down.G2532G4160G3779G2532G347G537G347 16Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people.G1161G2983G4002G740G2532G1417G2486G308G1519G3772G2127G846G2532G2622G2532G1325G3101G3908G3793 17They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers!G2532G5315G2532G5526G3956G5526G2532G142G2801G4052G846G1427G2894

Peter’s Declaration about Jesus

18One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"G2532G1096G1722G1511G2651G4336G846G3101G4895G846G2532G1905G846G3004G5101G3004G3793G3165G1511 19"Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead."G1161G611G2036G2491G910G1161G243G2243G1161G243G3754G5100G744G4396G450 20Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Messiah sent from God!"G1161G2036G846G1161G5101G3004G5210G3165G1511G1161G4074G611G2036G5547G2316

Jesus Predicts His Death

21Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone who he was.G1161G2008G846G3853G2036G3367G5124 22"The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things," he said. "He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead."G2036G3754G5207G444G1163G3958G4183G2532G593G575G4245G2532G749G2532G1122G2532G615G2532G1453G5154G2250 23Then he said to the crowd, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.G1161G3004G4314G3956G1536G2309G2064G3694G3450G533G1438G2532G142G846G4716G2250G2596G2532G190G3427 24If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.G1063G3739G302G2309G4982G846G5590G622G846G1161G3739G302G622G846G5590G1700G1752G3778G4982G846 25And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?G1063G5101G5623G444G5623G2770G3650G2889G1161G622G1438G2228G2210 26If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.G1063G3739G302G1870G3165G2532G1699G3056G5126G1870G5207G444G1870G3752G2064G1722G846G1391G2532G3962G2532G40G32 27I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God."G1161G3004G5213G230G1526G5100G2476G5602G3739G1089G3364G1089G2288G2193G302G1492G932G2316

The Transfiguration

28About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.G1161G1096G5616G3638G2250G3326G5128G3056G2532G3880G4074G2532G2491G2532G2385G305G1519G3735G4336 29And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.G2532G1722G846G4336G1491G846G4383G1096G2087G2532G846G2441G3022G1823 30Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.G2532G2400G4814G846G1417G435G3748G2258G3475G2532G2243 31They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.G3739G3700G1722G1391G3004G846G1841G3739G3195G4137G1722G2419 32Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus' glory and the two men standing with him.G1161G4074G2532G4862G846G2258G916G5258G1161G1235G1492G846G1391G2532G1417G435G4921G846 33As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out, "Master, it's wonderful for us to be here! Let's make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."G2532G1096G1722G846G1316G575G846G4074G2036G4314G2424G1988G2076G2570G2248G1511G5602G2532G4160G5140G4633G3391G4671G2532G3391G3475G2532G3391G2243G3361G1492G3739G3004 34But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.G1161G846G5023G3004G1096G3507G2532G1982G846G1161G5399G1722G1565G1525G1519G3507 35Then a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him."G2532G1096G5456G1537G3507G3004G3778G2076G3450G27G5207G191G846 36When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone. They didn't tell anyone at that time what they had seen.G2532G5456G1722G1096G2424G2147G3441G2532G846G4601G2532G518G3762G1722G1565G2250G3762G3739G3708

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

37The next day, after they had come down the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus.G1161G1096G1722G1836G2250G846G2718G575G3735G4183G3793G4876G846 38A man in the crowd called out to him, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, my only child.G2532G2400G435G575G3793G310G3004G1320G1189G4675G1914G1909G3450G5207G3754G2076G3427G3439 39An evil spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It batters him and hardly ever leaves him alone.G2532G2400G4151G2983G846G2532G1810G2896G2532G4682G846G876G3326G2532G4937G846G3425G672G575G846 40I begged your disciples to cast out the spirit, but they couldn't do it."G2532G1189G4675G3101G2443G1544G846G1544G2532G1410G3756 41Jesus said, "You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you and put up with you?" Then he said to the man, "Bring your son here."G1161G2424G611G2036G5599G571G2532G1294G1074G2193G4219G2071G4314G5209G2532G430G5216G4317G4675G5207G5602 42As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a violent convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit and healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his father.G1161G846G4334G2089G4334G1140G4486G846G4486G2532G4952G1161G2424G2008G169G4151G2532G2390G3816G2532G591G846G591G846G3962

Jesus Again Predicts His Death

43Awe gripped the people as they saw this majestic display of God's power. While everyone was marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,G1161G1605G3956G1605G1909G3168G2316G1161G2296G3956G1909G3956G3739G2424G4160G2036G4314G846G3101 44"Listen to me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies."G5128G3056G5087G1519G5210G5216G3775G1063G5207G444G3195G3860G1519G5495G444 45But they didn't know what he meant. Its significance was hidden from them, so they couldn't understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.G1161G50G5124G4487G2532G2258G3871G575G846G3363G143G846G3363G2532G5399G2065G846G4012G5127G4487

The Greatest in the Kingdom

46Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest.G1161G1525G1261G1722G846G5101G302G846G1498G3187 47But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side.G1161G2424G1492G1261G846G2588G1949G3813G2476G846G3844G1438 48Then he said to them, "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest."G2532G2036G846G3739G1437G1209G5124G3813G1909G3450G3686G1209G1691G2532G3739G1437G1209G1691G1209G649G3165G1063G5225G3398G1722G5213G3956G3778G2071G3173

Using the Name of Jesus

49John said to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn't in our group."G1161G2491G611G2036G1988G1492G5100G1544G1140G1909G4675G3686G2532G2967G846G3754G190G3756G3326G2257 50But Jesus said, "Don't stop him! Anyone who is not against you is for you."G2532G2424G2036G4314G846G2967G3361G1063G3739G2076G3756G2596G2257G2076G5228G2257

Opposition from Samaritans

51As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.G1161G1096G1722G2250G4845G846G354G2532G846G4741G846G4383G4198G1519G2419 52He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival.G2532G649G32G4253G846G4383G2532G4198G1525G1519G2968G4541G5620G2090G846 53But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem.G2532G1209G3756G1209G846G3754G846G4383G2258G4198G1519G2419 54When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?"G1161G846G3101G2385G2532G2491G1492G2036G2962G2309G2036G4442G2597G575G3772G2532G355G846G2532G5613G2243G4160 55But Jesus turned and rebuked them.G1161G4762G2008G846G2532G2036G1492G3756G3634G4151G5210G2075 56So they went on to another village.G1063G5207G444G2064G3756G2064G622G444G5590G235G4982G2532G4198G1519G2087G2968

The Cost of Following Jesus

57As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, "I will follow you wherever you go."G1161G1096G846G4198G1722G3598G5100G2036G4314G846G2962G190G4671G3699G302G565 58But Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head."G2532G2424G2036G846G258G2192G5454G2532G4071G3772G2682G1161G5207G444G2192G3756G4226G2827G2776 59He said to another person, "Come, follow me." The man agreed, but he said, "Lord, first let me return home and bury my father."G1161G2036G4314G2087G190G3427G1161G2036G2962G2010G3427G4412G565G2290G3450G3962 60But Jesus told him, "Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God."G1161G2424G2036G846G863G3498G2290G1438G3498G1161G565G4771G1229G932G2316 61Another said, "Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family."G1161G2087G2532G2036G2962G190G4671G1161G2010G3427G4412G657G1519G3450G3624 62But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God."G1161G2424G2036G4314G846G3762G1911G846G5495G1909G723G2532G991G1519G3694G2076G2111G1519G932G2316
