2Chronicles 10

The Kingdom Divided

10Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king.H7346H3212H7927H7927H3478H935H44272When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard [about it]— for he was in Egypt where he had fled from King Solomon's presence— Jeroboam returned from Egypt.H3379H1121H5028H4714H1272H6440H8010H4428H8085H3379H7725H47143So they summoned him. Then Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam:H7971H7121H3379H3478H935H1696H7346H5594"Your father made our yoke harsh. Therefore, lighten your father's harsh service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you."H1H5923H7185H7043H7186H5656H1H3515H5923H5414H56475Rehoboam replied, "Return to me in three days." So the people left.H559H7725H7969H3117H5971H32126Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon when he was alive, asking, "How do you advise me to respond to this people?"H4428H7346H3289H2205H5975H6440H8010H1H2416H559H349H3289H7725H1697H59717They replied, "If you will be kind to these people and please them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever."H1696H559H2896H5971H7521H1696H2896H1697H5650H31178But he rejected the advice of the elders who had advised him and consulted with the young men who had grown up with him, the ones serving him.H5800H6098H2205H3289H3289H3206H1431H5975H64409He asked them, "What message do you advise we send back to this people who said to me, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us'?"H559H3289H7725H1697H5971H1696H559H7043H5923H1H541410Then the young men who had grown up with him told him, "This is what you should say to the people who said to you, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!' This is what you should say to them: 'My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.H3206H1431H1696H559H559H5971H1696H559H1H3513H5923H3513H7043H559H6995H5666H1H497511Now therefore, my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I, with barbed whips.'"H6258H1H6006H3515H5923H3254H5923H1H3256H7752H613712So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, just as the king had ordered, saying, "Return to me on the third day."H3379H5971H935H7346H7992H3117H4428H1696H559H7725H7992H311713Then the king answered them harshly. King Rehoboam rejected the elders' adviceH4428H6030H7186H4428H7346H5800H6098H220514and spoke to them according to the young men's advice, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I, with barbed whips."H1696H6098H3206H559H1H5923H3513H3254H1H3256H7752H613715The king did not listen to the people because the turn of events came from God, in order that the LORD might carry out His word that He had spoken through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.H4428H8085H5971H5252H430H3068H6965H1697H1696H3027H281H7888H3379H1121H502816When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people answered the king: What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Israel, each man to your tent; David, look after your own house now! So all Israel went to their tents.H3478H7200H4428H8085H5971H7725H4428H559H2506H1732H5159H1121H3448H376H168H3478H1732H7200H1004H3478H3212H16817But as for the Israelites living in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.H1121H3478H3427H5892H3063H7346H442718Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. However, King Rehoboam managed to get up into the chariot to flee to Jerusalem.H4428H7346H7971H1913H4522H1121H3478H7275H68H4191H4428H7346H553H5927H4818H5127H338919Israel is in rebellion against the house of David until today.H3478H6586H1004H1732H3117

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
