Zechariah 11

11Open your doors, O Lebanon, so that fire may devour your cedars!H6605H1817H3844H784H398H7302Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen, for the glorious trees are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the thick forest has been felled!H3213H1265H730H5307H117H7703H3213H437H1316H3293H1208H1219H33813Listen, the wail of the shepherds, for their glory is despoiled! Listen, the roar of the lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are destroyed!H6963H3215H7462H155H7703H6963H7581H3715H1347H3383H7703

Two Kinds of Shepherds

4Thus said the LORD my God: Be a shepherd of the flock doomed to slaughter.H559H3068H430H7462H6629H20285Those who buy them kill them and go unpunished; and those who sell them say, "Blessed be the LORD, for I have become rich"; and their own shepherds have no pity on them.H7069H2026H816H4376H559H1288H3068H6238H7462H25506For I will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of the earth, says the LORD. I will cause them, every one, to fall each into the hand of a neighbor, and each into the hand of the king; and they shall devastate the earth, and I will deliver no one from their hand.H2550H3427H776H5002H3068H4672H120H376H7453H3027H3027H4428H3807H776H3027H53377So, on behalf of the sheep merchants, I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to slaughter. I took two staffs; one I named Favor, the other I named Unity, and I tended the sheep.H7462H6629H2028H3651H6041H6629H3947H8147H4731H259H7121H5278H259H7121H2254H7462H66298In one month I disposed of the three shepherds, for I had become impatient with them, and they also detested me.H7969H7462H3582H259H3391H5315H7114H5315H9739So I said, "I will not be your shepherd. What is to die, let it die; what is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed; and let those that are left devour the flesh of one another!"H559H7462H4191H4191H3582H3582H7604H398H802H1320H746810I took my staff Favor and broke it, annulling the covenant that I had made with all the peoples.H3947H4731H5278H1438H6565H1285H3772H597111So it was annulled on that day, and the sheep merchants, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD.H6565H3117H6041H6629H8104H3045H1697H306812I then said to them, "If it seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them." So they weighed out as my wages thirty shekels of silver.H559H5869H2896H3051H7939H2308H8254H7939H7970H370113Then the LORD said to me, "Throw it into the treasury"—this lordly price at which I was valued by them. So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them into the treasury in the house of the LORD.H3068H559H7993H3335H145H3366H3365H3947H7970H3701H7993H3335H1004H306814Then I broke my second staff Unity, annulling the family ties between Judah and Israel.H1438H8145H4731H2254H6565H264H3063H347815Then the LORD said to me: Take once more the implements of a worthless shepherd.H3068H559H3947H3627H196H746216For I am now raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for the perishing, or seek the wandering, or heal the maimed, or nourish the healthy, but devours the flesh of the fat ones, tearing off even their hoofs.H6965H7462H776H6485H3582H1245H5289H7495H7665H3557H5324H398H1320H1277H6561H6541H656117Oh, my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! Let his arm be completely withered, his right eye utterly blinded!H1945H457H7473H5800H6629H2719H2220H3225H5869H2220H3001H3001H3225H5869H3543H3543

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
