Additional Warning to the Priests

2"And now this admonition is for you, O priests.H3548H4687 2If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me.H8085H7760H3820H5414H3519H8034H559H3068H6635H7971H3994H779H1293H779H7760H3820 3"Because of you I will rebuke your descendants; I will spread on your faces the offal from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it.H1605H2233H2219H6569H6440H6569H2282H5375 4And you will know that I have sent you this admonition so that my covenant with Levi may continue," says the LORD Almighty.H3045H7971H4687H1285H3878H559H3068H6635 5"My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.H1285H2416H7965H5414H4172H3372H2865H6440H8034 6True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.H8451H571H6310H5766H4672H8193H1980H7965H4334H7725H7227H7725H5771 7"For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction—because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty.H3548H8193H8104H1847H1245H8451H6310H4397H3068H6635 8But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi," says the LORD Almighty.H5493H1870H7227H3782H8451H7843H1285H3878H559H3068H6635 9"So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law."H5414H959H8217H5971H6310H8104H1870H5375H6440H8451

Breaking Covenant Through Divorce

10Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?H259H1H259H410H1254H898H376H251H2490H1285H1 11Judah has broken faith. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD loves, by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.H3063H898H8441H6213H3478H3389H3063H2490H6944H3068H157H1166H1323H5236H410 12As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the LORD cut him off from the tents of Jacob—even though he brings offerings to the LORD Almighty.H3068H3772H376H6213H5782H6030H168H3290H5066H4503H3068H6635 13Another thing you do: You flood the LORD'S altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.H6213H8145H3680H4196H3068H1832H1065H603H6437H4503H3947H7522H3027 14You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.H559H4100H3068H5749H802H5271H898H2278H802H1285 15Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.H6213H259H7605H7307H259H1245H430H2233H8104H7307H898H802H5271 16"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.H3068H430H3478H559H8130H7971H3680H2555H3830H559H3068H6635H8104H7307H898

Breaking Covenant Through Injustice

17You have wearied the LORD with your words. "How have we wearied him?" you ask. By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased with them" or "Where is the God of justice?"H3021H3068H1697H559H3021H559H6213H7451H2896H5869H3068H2654H430H4941
