2Chronicles 28

Reign of Ahaz

28Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. He did not do what was right in the sight of the LORD, as his ancestor David had done,H271H6242H8141H1121H4427H4427H8337H6240H8141H3389H6213H3477H5869H3068H1732H12but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made cast images for the Baals;H3212H1870H4428H3478H6213H4541H11683and he made offerings in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and made his sons pass through fire, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.H6999H1516H1121H2011H1197H1121H784H8441H1471H3068H3423H6440H1121H34784He sacrificed and made offerings on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.H2076H6999H1116H1389H7488H6086

Aram and Israel Defeat Judah

5Therefore the LORD his God gave him into the hand of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who defeated him with great slaughter.H3068H430H5414H3027H4428H758H5221H7617H1419H7633H935H1834H5414H3027H4428H3478H5221H1419H43476Pekah son of Remaliah killed one hundred twenty thousand in Judah in one day, all of them valiant warriors, because they had abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors.H6492H1121H7425H2026H3063H3967H6242H505H259H3117H2428H1121H5800H3068H430H17And Zichri, a mighty warrior of Ephraim, killed the king's son Maaseiah, Azrikam the commander of the palace, and Elkanah the next in authority to the king.H2147H1368H669H2026H4641H4428H1121H5840H5057H1004H511H4932H4428

Intervention of Oded

8The people of Israel took captive two hundred thousand of their kin, women, sons, and daughters; they also took much booty from them and brought the booty to Samaria.H1121H3478H7617H251H3967H505H802H1121H1323H962H7227H7998H935H7998H81119But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded; he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Because the LORD, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand, but you have killed them in a rage that has reached up to heaven.H5030H3068H8034H5752H3318H6440H6635H935H8111H559H3068H430H1H2534H3063H5414H3027H2026H2197H5060H806410Now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, as your slaves. But what have you except sins against the LORD your God?H559H3533H1121H3063H3389H5650H8198H7535H819H3068H43011Now hear me, and send back the captives whom you have taken from your kindred, for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you."H8085H7725H7633H7617H251H2740H639H306812Moreover, certain chiefs of the Ephraimites, Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai, stood up against those who were coming from the war,H582H7218H1121H669H5838H1121H3076H1296H1121H4919H3169H1121H7967H6021H1121H2311H6965H935H663513and said to them, "You shall not bring the captives in here, for you propose to bring on us guilt against the LORD in addition to our present sins and guilt. For our guilt is already great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel."H559H935H7633H819H3068H559H3254H2403H819H819H7227H2740H639H347814So the warriors left the captives and the booty before the officials and all the assembly.H2502H5800H7633H961H6440H8269H695115Then those who were mentioned by name got up and took the captives, and with the booty they clothed all that were naked among them; they clothed them, gave them sandals, provided them with food and drink, and anointed them; and carrying all the feeble among them on donkeys, they brought them to their kindred at Jericho, the city of palm trees. Then they returned to Samaria.H582H5344H8034H6965H2388H7633H7998H3847H4636H3847H5274H398H8248H5480H5095H3782H2543H935H3405H5892H8558H5899H681H251H7725H8111

Assyria Refuses to Help Judah

16At that time King Ahaz sent to the king of Assyria for help.H6256H4428H271H7971H4428H804H582617For the Edomites had again invaded and defeated Judah, and carried away captives.H130H935H5221H3063H7617H762818And the Philistines had made raids on the cities in the Shephelah and the Negeb of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and Gimzo with its villages; and they settled there.H6430H6584H5892H8219H5045H3063H3920H1053H357H1450H7755H1323H8553H1323H1579H1323H342719For the LORD brought Judah low because of King Ahaz of Israel, for he had behaved without restraint in Judah and had been faithless to the LORD.H3068H3665H3063H3665H271H4428H3478H6544H3063H6544H4603H4604H306820So King Tilgath-pilneser of Assyria came against him, and oppressed him instead of strengthening him.H8407H4428H804H935H6696H238821For Ahaz plundered the house of the LORD and the houses of the king and of the officials, and gave tribute to the king of Assyria; but it did not help him.H271H2505H1004H3068H1004H4428H8269H5414H4428H804H5833

Apostasy and Death of Ahaz

22In the time of his distress he became yet more faithless to the LORD—this same King Ahaz.H6256H6887H4603H3254H3068H4428H27123For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which had defeated him, and said, "Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, I will sacrifice to them so that they may help me." But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.H2076H430H1834H5221H559H430H4428H758H5826H2076H5826H3782H347824Ahaz gathered together the utensils of the house of God, and cut in pieces the utensils of the house of God. He shut up the doors of the house of the LORD and made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.H271H622H3627H1004H430H7112H3627H1004H430H5462H1817H1004H3068H6213H4196H6438H338925In every city of Judah he made high places to make offerings to other gods, provoking to anger the LORD, the God of his ancestors.H5892H3063H6213H1116H6999H312H430H3707H3068H430H126Now the rest of his acts and all his ways, from first to last, are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.H3499H1697H1870H7223H314H3789H5612H4428H3063H347827Ahaz slept with his ancestors, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem; but they did not bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.H271H7901H1H6912H5892H3389H935H6913H4428H3478H3169H1121H4427

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
