16Now the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:H1697H3068H3058H1121H2607H1201H5592"Because I raised you up from the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, but you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have caused My people Israel to sin, provoking Me with their sins,H7311H6083H5414H5057H5971H3478H3212H1870H3379H5971H3478H2398H3707H24033take note: I will sweep away Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat:H1197H310H1201H310H1004H5414H1004H1004H3379H1121H50284Anyone who belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, the dogs will eat, and anyone who is his and dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.H4191H1201H5892H3611H398H4191H7704H5775H8064H3985The rest of the events of Baasha's [reign], along with all his accomplishments and might, are written about in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.H3499H1697H1201H6213H1369H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H34786Baasha rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah. His son Elah became king in his place.H1201H7901H1H6912H8656H425H1121H44277Through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani the word of the LORD also came against Baasha and against his house because of all the evil he had done in the LORD's sight, provoking Him with the work of his hands and being like the house of Jeroboam, and because Baasha had struck down the house of Jeroboam.H3027H5030H3058H1121H2607H1697H3068H1201H1004H7451H6213H5869H3068H3707H4639H3027H1004H3379H52218In the twenty-sixth year of Judah's King Asa, Elah son of Baasha became king over Israel in Tirzah; [he reigned] two years.H6242H8141H8337H8141H609H4428H3063H425H1121H1201H4427H3478H8656H81419His servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him while Elah was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was in charge of the household at Tirzah.H5650H2174H8269H4276H7393H7194H8656H8354H7910H1004H777H1004H865610In the twenty-seventh year of Judah's King Asa, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. Then Zimri became king in his place.H2174H935H5221H4191H6242H7651H8141H609H4428H3063H442711When he became king, as soon as he was seated on his throne, Zimri struck down the entire house of Baasha. He did not leave him a single male, whether of his kinsmen or his friends.H4427H3427H3678H5221H1004H1201H7604H8366H7023H1350H745312So Zimri exterminated the entire house of Baasha, according to the word of the LORD He had spoken against Baasha through Jehu the prophet,H2174H8045H1004H1201H1697H3068H1696H1201H3027H3058H503013because of all the sins of Baasha and the sins of his son Elah, which they committed and caused Israel to commit, provoking the LORD God of Israel with their worthless idols.H2403H1201H2403H425H1121H2398H3478H2398H3068H430H3478H3707H189214The rest of the events of Elah's [reign], along with all his accomplishments, are written about in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.H3499H1697H425H6213H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H347815In the twenty-seventh year of Judah's King Asa, Zimri became king for seven days in Tirzah. Now the troops were encamped against Gibbethon of the Philistines.H6242H8141H7651H8141H609H4428H3063H2174H4427H7651H3117H8656H5971H2583H1405H643016When the encamped troops heard that Zimri had not only conspired but had also struck down the king, then all Israel made Omri, the army commander, king over Israel that very day in the camp.H5971H2583H8085H559H2174H7194H5221H4428H3478H6018H8269H6635H4427H3478H3117H426417Omri along with all Israel marched up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.H6018H5927H1405H3478H6696H865618When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned down the royal palace over himself. He diedH2174H7200H5892H3920H935H759H4428H1004H8313H4428H1004H784H419119because of his sin he committed by doing what was evil in the LORD's sight and by following the example of Jeroboam and the sin he caused Israel to commit.H2403H2398H6213H7451H5869H3068H3212H1870H3379H2403H6213H3478H239820The rest of the events of Zimri's [reign], along with the conspiracy that he instigated, are written about in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.H3499H1697H2174H7195H7194H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H347821At that time the people of Israel were split in half: half the people followed Tibni son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri.H5971H3478H2505H2677H2677H5971H1961H310H8402H1121H1527H4427H2677H310H601822However, the people who followed Omri proved stronger than those who followed Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.H5971H310H6018H2388H854H5971H310H8402H1121H1527H8402H4191H6018H442723In the thirty-first year of Judah's King Asa, Omri became king over Israel; [he reigned] 12 years. He reigned six years in Tirzah,H7970H8141H259H8141H609H4428H3063H6018H4427H3478H8147H6240H8141H8337H8141H4427H865624then he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for 150 pounds of silver, and he built up the hill. He named the city he built Samaria based on the name Shemer, the owner of the hill.H7069H2022H8111H8106H3603H3701H1129H2022H7121H8034H5892H1129H8034H8106H113H2022H811125Omri did what was evil in the LORD's sight; he did more evil than all who were before him.H6018H6213H7451H5869H3068H7489H644026He followed the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the sins he caused Israel to commit, provoking the LORD God of Israel with their worthless idols.H3212H1870H3379H1121H5028H2403H3478H2398H3068H430H3478H3707H189227The rest of the events of Omri's [reign], along with his accomplishments and the might he exercised, are written about in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.H3499H1697H6018H6213H1369H6213H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H347828Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab became king in his place.H6018H7901H1H6912H8111H256H1121H442729Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Judah's King Asa; Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria 22 years.H7970H8141H8083H8141H609H4428H3063H256H1121H6018H4427H3478H256H1121H6018H4427H3478H8111H6242H8147H814130But Ahab son of Omri did what was evil in the LORD's sight more than all who were before him.H256H1121H6018H6213H7451H5869H3068H644031Then, as if following the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat were a trivial matter, he married Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him.H7043H3212H2403H3379H1121H5028H3947H802H348H1323H856H4428H6722H3212H5647H1168H781232He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he had built in Samaria.H6965H4196H1168H1004H1168H1129H811133Ahab also made an Asherah pole. Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him.H256H6213H842H256H6213H3254H3068H430H3478H3707H4428H3478H644034During his reign, Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. At the cost of Abiram his firstborn, he laid its foundation, and at the cost of Segub his youngest, he set up its gates, according to the word of the LORD He had spoken through Joshua son of Nun.H3117H2419H1017H1129H3405H3245H48H1060H5324H1817H6810H7687H1697H3068H1696H3027H3091H1121H5126

1Kings 17

17Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, I stand before Him, and there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!"H452H8664H8453H1568H559H256H3068H430H3478H2416H6440H5975H2919H4306H8141H6310H16972Then a revelation from the LORD came to him:H1697H3068H5593"Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself at the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan.H3212H6437H6924H5641H5158H3747H6440H33834You are to drink from the wadi. I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there."H8354H5158H6680H6158H35575So he did what the LORD commanded. Elijah left and lived by the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan.H3212H6213H1697H3068H3212H3427H5158H3747H6440H33836The ravens kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, and he drank from the wadi.H6158H935H3899H1320H1242H3899H1320H6153H8354H51587After a while, the wadi dried up because there had been no rain in the land.H7093H3117H5158H3001H1653H7768Then the word of the LORD came to him:H1697H3068H5599"Get up, go to Zarephath that belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Look, I have commanded a woman who is a widow to provide for you there."H6965H3212H6886H6721H3427H6680H490H802H355710So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow woman gathering wood. Elijah called to her and said, "Please bring me a little water in a cup and let me drink."H6965H3212H6886H935H6607H5892H490H802H7197H6086H7121H559H3947H4592H4325H3627H835411As she went to get it, he called to her and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand."H3212H3947H7121H559H3947H6595H3899H302712But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I don't have anything baked— only a handful of flour in the jar and a bit of oil in the jug. Just now, I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat it and die."H559H3068H430H2416H3426H4580H4393H3709H7058H3537H4592H8081H6835H7197H8147H6086H935H6213H1121H398H419113Then Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid; go and do as you have said. Only make me a small loaf from it and bring it out to me. Afterwards, you may make some for yourself and your son,H452H559H3372H935H6213H1697H6213H8033H6996H5692H7223H3318H314H6213H112114for this is what the LORD God of Israel says: 'The flour jar will not become empty and the oil jug will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the surface of the land.'"H559H3068H430H3478H3537H7058H3615H6835H8081H2637H3117H3068H5414H1653H6440H12715So she proceeded to do according to the word of Elijah. She and he and her household ate for many days.H3212H6213H1697H452H1004H398H311716The flour jar did not become empty, and the oil jug did not run dry, according to the word of the LORD He had spoken through Elijah.H3537H7058H3615H6835H8081H2638H1697H3068H1696H3027H45217After this, the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. His illness became very severe until no breath remained in him.H310H1697H1121H802H1172H1004H2470H2483H3966H2389H5397H349818She said to Elijah, "Man of God, what do we have in common? Have you come to remind me of my guilt and to kill my son?"H559H452H376H430H935H2142H5771H2142H4191H112119But Elijah said to her, "Give me your son." So he took him from her arms, brought him up to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed.H559H5414H1121H3947H2436H5927H5944H3427H7901H429620Then he cried out to the LORD and said, "My LORD God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow I am staying with by killing her son?"H7121H3068H559H3068H430H7489H490H1481H4191H112121Then he stretched himself out over the boy three times. He cried out to the LORD and said, "My LORD God, please let this boy's life return to him!"H4058H3206H7969H6471H7121H3068H559H3068H430H3206H5315H7725H7130H772522So the LORD listened to Elijah's voice, and the boy's life returned to him, and he lived.H3068H8085H6963H452H5315H3206H7725H7130H7725H242123Then Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, "Look, your son is alive."H452H3947H3206H3381H5944H1004H5414H517H452H559H7200H1121H241624Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now I know you are a man of God and the LORD's word in your mouth is the truth."H802H559H452H2088H3045H376H430H1697H3068H6310H571

1Kings 18

18After a long time, the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year: "Go and present yourself to Ahab. I will send rain on the surface of the land."H7227H3117H1697H3068H452H7992H8141H559H3212H7200H256H5414H4306H6440H1272So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.H452H3212H7200H256H2389H7458H81113Ahab called for Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. Obadiah was a man who greatly feared the LORDH256H7121H5662H1004H5662H3373H3068H39664and took 100 prophets and hid them, 50 men to a cave, and provided them with food and water when Jezebel slaughtered the LORD's prophets.H348H3772H5030H3068H5662H3947H3967H5030H2244H376H2572H4631H3557H3899H43255Ahab said to Obadiah, "Go throughout the land to every spring of water and to every wadi. Perhaps we'll find grass so we can keep the horses and mules alive and not have to destroy any cattle."H256H559H5662H3212H776H4599H4325H5158H194H4672H2682H2421H5483H6505H2421H3772H9296They divided the land between them in order to cover it. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went the other way by himself.H2505H776H5674H256H1980H259H1870H5662H1980H259H18707While Obadiah was [walking] along the road, Elijah suddenly met him. When Obadiah recognized him, he fell with his face [to the ground] and said, "Is it you, my lord Elijah?"H5662H1870H452H7125H5234H5307H6440H559H113H4528"It is I," he replied. "Go tell your lord, 'Elijah is here!'"H559H3212H559H113H4529But Obadiah said, "What sin have I committed, that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to put me to death?H559H2398H5414H5650H3027H256H419110As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent someone to search for you. When they said, 'He is not here,' he made that kingdom or nation swear they had not found you.H3068H430H2416H3426H1471H4467H834H113H7971H1245H559H7650H4467H1471H467211"Now you say, 'Go tell your lord, "Elijah is here!"'H559H3212H559H113H45212But when I leave you, the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off to some place I don't know. Then when I go report to Ahab and he doesn't find you, he will kill me. But [I], your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.H3212H7307H3068H5375H3045H935H5046H256H4672H2026H5650H3372H3068H527113Wasn't it reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel slaughtered the LORD's prophets? I hid 100 of the prophets of the LORD, 50 men to a cave, and I provided them with food and water.H5046H113H6213H348H2026H5030H3068H2244H3967H376H3068H5030H2572H4631H3557H3899H432514Now you say, 'Go tell your lord, "Elijah is here!" ' He will kill me!"H559H3212H559H113H452H202615Then Elijah said, "As the LORD of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, today I will present myself to Ahab."H452H559H3068H6635H2416H6440H5975H7200H311716Obadiah went to meet Ahab and report to him. Then Ahab went to meet Elijah.H5662H3212H7125H256H5046H256H3212H7125H45217When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, "Is that you, you destroyer of Israel?"H256H7200H452H256H559H5916H347818He replied, "I have not destroyed Israel, but you and your father's house have, because you have abandoned the LORD's commandments and followed the Baals.H559H5916H3478H1H1004H5800H4687H3068H3212H310H116819Now summon all Israel to meet me at Mount Carmel, along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah who eat at Jezebel's table."H7971H6908H3478H2022H3760H5030H1168H702H3967H2572H5030H842H702H3967H398H348H797920So Ahab summoned all the Israelites and gathered the prophets at Mount Carmel.H256H7971H1121H3478H6908H5030H6908H2022H376021Then Elijah approached all the people and said, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If Yahweh is God, follow Him. But if Baal, follow him." But the people didn't answer him a word.H452H5066H5971H559H5921H6452H8147H5587H3068H430H1168H3212H310H5971H6030H169722Then Elijah said to the people, "I am the only remaining prophet of the LORD, but Baal's prophets are 450 men.H559H452H5971H3498H5030H3068H1168H5030H702H3967H2572H37623Let two bulls be given to us. They are to choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire.H5414H8147H6499H977H259H6499H5408H7760H6086H7760H784H6213H259H6499H5414H6086H7760H78424Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of Yahweh. The God who answers with fire, He is God." All the people answered, "That [sounds] good."H7121H8034H430H7121H8034H3068H430H6030H784H430H5971H6030H559H2896H169725Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Since you are so numerous, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god but don't light the fire."H452H559H5030H1168H977H259H6499H6213H7223H7227H7121H8034H430H7760H78426So they took the bull that he gave them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, "Baal, answer us!" But there was no sound; no one answered. Then they did their lame dance around the altar they had made.H3947H6499H5414H6213H7121H8034H1168H1242H6672H559H1168H6030H369H6963H6030H6452H4196H621327At noon Elijah mocked them. He said, "Shout loudly, for he's a god! Maybe he's thinking it over; maybe he has wandered away; or maybe he's on the road. Perhaps he's sleeping and will wake up!"H6672H452H2048H559H7121H1419H6963H430H7879H7873H1870H194H3463H336428They shouted loudly, and cut themselves with knives and spears, according to their custom, until blood gushed out on them.H7121H6963H1419H1413H4941H2719H7420H1818H821029All afternoon, they kept on raving until the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no sound, no one answered, no one paid attention.H6672H5674H5012H5927H4503H6963H6030H718230Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near me." So all the people approached him. Then he repaired the LORD's altar that had been torn down:H452H559H5971H5066H5971H5066H7495H4196H3068H204031Elijah took 12 stones— according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying, "Israel will be your name"—H452H3947H8147H6240H68H4557H7626H1121H3290H1697H3068H559H3478H803432and he built an altar with the stones in the name of Yahweh. Then he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold about four gallons.H68H1129H4196H8034H3068H6213H8585H5439H4196H1004H5429H223333Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood. He said, "Fill four water pots with water and pour it on the offering to be burned and on the wood."H6186H6086H6186H5408H6499H7760H6086H559H4390H702H3537H4325H3332H5930H608634Then he said, "A second time!" and they did it a second time. And then he said, "A third time!" and they did it a third time.H559H8138H8138H559H8027H802735So the water ran all around the altar; he even filled the trench with water.H4325H3212H5439H4196H4390H8585H432536At the time for offering the [evening] sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached [the altar] and said, "LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that at Your word I have done all these things.H5927H4503H452H5030H5066H559H3068H430H85H3327H3478H3045H3117H430H3478H5650H6213H169737Answer me, LORD! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back."H6030H3068H6030H5971H3045H3068H430H5437H3820H5437H32238Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.H784H3068H5307H398H5930H6086H68H6083H3897H4325H858539When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, "Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!"H5971H7200H5307H6440H559H3068H430H3068H43040Then Elijah ordered them, "Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let even one of them escape." So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the Wadi Kishon and slaughtered them there.H452H559H8610H5030H1168H376H4422H8610H452H3381H5158H7028H781941Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a rainstorm."H452H559H256H5927H398H8354H6963H1995H165342So Ahab went to eat and drink, but Elijah went up to the summit of Carmel. He bowed down to the ground and put his face between his knees.H256H5927H398H8354H452H5927H7218H3760H1457H776H7760H6440H129043Then he said to his servant, "Go up and look toward the sea." So he went up, looked, and said, "There's nothing." Seven times Elijah said, "Go back."H559H5288H5927H5027H1870H3220H5927H5027H559H3972H559H7725H7651H647144On the seventh time, he reported, "There's a cloud as small as a man's hand coming from the sea." Then Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, 'Get [your chariot] ready and go down so the rain doesn't stop you.'"H7637H559H5927H6996H5645H3220H376H3709H559H5927H559H256H631H3381H1653H611345In a little while, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and there was a downpour. So Ahab got in [his chariot] and went to Jezreel.H3541H8064H6937H5645H7307H1419H1653H256H7392H3212H315746The power of the LORD was on Elijah, and he tucked his mantle under his belt and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.H3027H3068H452H8151H4975H7323H6440H256H935H3157

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
