Jeroboam Warned, Stricken

13AND BEHOLD, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.H935H376H430H3063H1697H3068H1008H3379H5975H4196H6999 2The man cried against the altar by the word of the Lord, O altar, altar, thus says the Lord: Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you shall he offer the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men's bones shall be burned on you.H7121H4196H1697H3068H559H4196H4196H559H3068H1121H3205H1004H1732H2977H8034H2076H3548H1116H6999H120H6106H8313 3And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the Lord has spoken: Behold, the altar shall be split and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out. [Fulfilled in II Kings 23:15, 16.]H5414H4159H3117H559H4159H3068H1696H4196H7167H1880H8210 4When King Jeroboam heard the words the man of God cried against the altar in Bethel, he thrust out his hand, saying, Lay hold on him! And his hand which he put forth against him dried up, so that he could not draw it to him again.H4428H3379H8085H1697H376H430H7121H4196H1008H7971H3027H4196H559H8610H3027H7971H3001H3201H7725 5The altar also was split and the ashes poured out from the altar according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord.H4196H7167H1880H8210H4196H4159H376H430H5414H1697H3068 6And the king said to the man of God, Entreat now the favor of the Lord your God and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me. And the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king's hand was restored and became as it was before.H4428H6030H559H376H430H2470H6440H3068H430H6419H3027H7725H376H430H2470H6440H3068H4428H3027H7725H7223 7And the king said to the man of God, Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.H4428H1696H376H430H935H1004H5582H5414H4991 8And the man of God said to the king, If you give me half your house, I will not go in with you, and I will not eat bread or drink water in this place.H376H430H559H4428H5414H2677H1004H935H398H3899H8354H4325H4725 9For I was commanded by the word of the Lord, You shall eat no bread or drink water or return by the way you came.H6680H1697H3068H559H398H3899H8354H4325H7725H1870H1980 10So he went another way and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel.H3212H312H1870H7725H1870H935H1008

The Disobedient Prophet

11Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he had spoken to the king they told also to their father.H3427H259H2205H5030H1008H1121H935H5608H4639H376H430H6213H3117H1008H1697H1696H4428H5608H1 12Their father asked them, Which way did he go? For his sons had seen which way the man of God who came from Judah had gone.H1H1696H1870H1980H1121H7200H335H1870H376H430H1980H935H3063 13He said to his sons, Saddle the donkey for me. So they saddled the donkey and he rode on itH559H1121H2280H2543H2280H2543H7392 14And went after the man of God. And he found him sitting under an oak, and he said to him, Are you the man of God who came from Judah? And he said, I am.H3212H310H376H430H4672H3427H424H559H376H430H935H3063H559 15Then he said to him, Come home with me and eat bread.H559H3212H1004H398H3899 16He said, I may not return with you or go in with you, neither will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.H559H3201H7725H935H398H3899H8354H4325H4725 17For I was told by the word of the Lord, You shall not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way that you came.H1697H1697H3068H398H3899H8354H4325H7725H3212H1870H1980 18He answered, I am a prophet also, as you are. And an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied to him.H559H5030H4397H1696H1697H3068H559H7725H1004H398H3899H8354H4325H3584 19So the man from Judah went back with him and ate and drank water in his house.H7725H398H3899H1004H8354H4325 20And as they sat at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who brought him back.H3427H7979H1697H3068H5030H7725 21And he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, Thus says the Lord: Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord and have not kept the command which the Lord your God commanded you,H7121H376H430H935H3063H559H559H3068H3282H4784H6310H3068H8104H4687H3068H430H6680 22But have come back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which the Lord said to you, Eat no bread and drink no water--your corpse shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.H7725H398H3899H8354H4325H4725H1696H398H3899H8354H4325H5038H935H6913H1 23And after the prophet of the house had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the donkey for the man he had brought back.H310H398H3899H310H8354H2280H2543H5030H7725 24And when he had gone, a lion met him by the road and slew him, and his corpse was cast in the way, and the donkey stood by it; the lion also stood by the corpse.H3212H738H4672H1870H4191H5038H7993H1870H2543H5975H681H738H5975H5038 25And behold, men passed by and saw the corpse thrown in the road, and the lion standing by the corpse, and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.H582H5674H7200H5038H7993H1870H738H5975H681H5038H935H1696H5892H2205H5030H3427 26When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, It is the man of God who was disobedient to the word of the Lord; therefore the Lord has given him to the lion, which has torn him and slain him, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke to him.H5030H7725H1870H8085H559H376H430H4784H6310H3068H3068H5414H738H7665H4191H1697H3068H1696 27And he said to his sons, Saddle the donkey for me. And they saddled it.H1696H1121H559H2280H2543H2280 28And he went and found the corpse thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion stood by the body; the lion had not eaten the corpse or torn the donkey.H3212H4672H5038H7993H1870H2543H738H5975H681H5038H738H398H5038H7665H2543 29The prophet took up the corpse of the man of God and laid it upon the donkey and brought it back, and the old prophet came into the city to mourn and to bury him.H5030H5375H5038H376H430H3240H2543H7725H2205H5030H935H5892H5594H6912 30And he laid the body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!H3240H5038H6913H5594H1945H251 31After he had buried him, he said to his sons, When I am dead, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.H310H6912H559H1121H559H4191H6912H6913H376H430H6912H3240H6106H681H6106 32For the saying which he cried by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria shall surely come to pass.H1697H7121H1697H3068H4196H1008H1004H1116H5892H8111 33After this thing, Jeroboam turned not from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people. Whoever would, he consecrated, that there might be priests for the high places.H310H1697H3379H7725H7451H1870H6213H7725H7098H5971H3548H1116H2655H4390H3027H3548H1116 34And this thing became the sin of the dynasty of Jeroboam that caused it to be abolished and destroyed from the face of the earth.H1697H2403H1004H3379H3582H8045H6440H127
