Ahab’s Third Campaign against Aram

22SYRIA AND Israel continued without war for three years.H3427H7969H8141H4421H758H3478 2In the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.H7992H8141H3092H4428H3063H3381H4428H3478 3And [Ahab] king of Israel said to his servants, Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we keep silence and do not take it from the king of Syria?H4428H3478H559H5650H3045H7433H1568H2814H3947H3027H4428H758 4And [Ahab] said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead to battle? Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.H559H3092H3212H4421H7433H1568H3092H559H4428H3478H3644H5971H5971H5483H5483 5But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray you, for the word of the Lord today.H3092H559H4428H3478H1875H1697H3068H3117 6Then [Ahab] king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about 400 men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I hold back? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.H4428H3478H6908H5030H6908H702H3967H376H559H3212H7433H1568H4421H2308H559H5927H136H5414H3027H4428 7Jehoshaphat said, Is there not another prophet of the Lord here whom we may ask?H3092H559H5030H3068H5750H1875 8[Ahab] king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, for he never prophesies good for me, but evil. Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say that.H4428H3478H559H3092H259H376H4321H1121H3229H1875H3068H8130H5012H2896H7451H3092H559H4428H559 9Then [Ahab] king of Israel told an officer, Bring quickly Micaiah son of Imlah.H4428H3478H7121H259H5631H559H4116H4321H1121H3229 10Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting in [royal] robes [or armor], each on his throne in an open place [on a threshing floor] at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.H4428H3478H3092H4428H3063H3427H376H3678H3847H899H1637H6607H8179H8111H5030H5012H6440 11And Zedekiah son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron and said, Thus says the Lord: With these you shall push the Syrians until they are destroyed.H6667H1121H3668H6213H7161H1270H559H559H3068H5055H758H3615 12And all the prophets agreed, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hand.H5030H5012H559H5927H7433H1568H6743H3068H5414H4428H3027

Micaiah Predicts Defeat

13The messenger who went to call Micaiah said to him, Behold now, the prophets unanimously declare good to the king. Let your answer, I pray you, be like theirs, and say what is good.H4397H1980H7121H4321H1696H559H1697H5030H2896H4428H259H6310H1697H1697H259H1696H2896 14But Micaiah said, As the Lord lives, I will speak what the Lord says to me.H4321H559H3068H2416H3068H559H1696 15So he came to the king. King [Ahab] said, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we hold back? And he answered, Go and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hand.H935H4428H4428H559H4321H3212H7433H1568H4421H2308H559H5927H6743H3068H5414H3027H4428 16And the king said to him, How many times must I charge you to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?H4428H559H6471H7650H1696H571H8034H3068 17And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills as sheep that have no shepherd, and the Lord said, These have no master. Let them return every man to his house in peace.H559H7200H3478H6327H2022H6629H7462H3068H559H113H7725H376H1004H7965 18Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?H4428H3478H559H3092H559H5012H2896H7451 19And Micaiah said, Hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right hand and on His left.H559H8085H1697H3068H7200H3068H3427H3678H6635H8064H5975H3225H8040 20And the Lord said, Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? One said this way, another said that way.H3068H559H6601H256H5927H5307H7433H1568H559H3541H559H3541 21Then there came forth a spirit [of whom I am about to tell] and stood before the Lord and said, I will entice him.H3318H7307H5975H6440H3068H559H6601 22The Lord said to him, By what means? And he said, I will go forth and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets. [The Lord] said, You shall entice him and succeed also. Go forth and do it.H3068H559H559H3318H8267H7307H6310H5030H559H6601H3201H3318H6213 23So the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets; and the Lord has spoken evil concerning you.H3068H5414H8267H7307H6310H5030H3068H1696H7451 24But Zedekiah son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak to you?H6667H1121H3668H5066H5221H4321H3895H559H335H5674H7307H3068H1696 25Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.H4321H559H7200H3117H935H2315H2315H2247 26[Ahab] king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son,H4428H3478H559H3947H4321H7725H526H8269H5892H3101H4428H1121 27And say, The king says, Put this fellow in prison and feed him with bread and water of affliction until I come in peace.H559H559H4428H7760H1004H3608H398H3899H3906H4325H3906H935H7965 28Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me. He [added], Hear, O people, every one of you!H4321H559H7725H7725H7965H3068H1696H559H8085H5971

Defeat and Death of Ahab

29So [Ahab] king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.H4428H3478H3092H4428H3063H5927H7433H1568 30And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself and enter the battle, but you put on your [royal] clothing. And the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.H4428H3478H559H3092H2664H935H4421H3847H899H4428H3478H2664H935H4421 31But the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, Fight neither with small nor great, but only with [Ahab] king of Israel.H4428H758H6680H7970H8147H8269H7393H559H3898H6996H1419H4428H3478 32And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. They turned to fight against him, but Jehoshaphat cried out.H8269H7393H7200H3092H559H4428H3478H5493H3898H3092H2199 33And when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.H8269H7393H7200H4428H3478H7725H310 34But a certain man drew a bow at a venture and smote [Ahab] the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, Turn around and carry me out of the army, for I am wounded.H376H4900H7198H8537H5221H4428H3478H1694H8302H559H7395H2015H3027H3318H4264H2470 35The battle increased that day, and [Ahab] the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and at nightfall he died. And the blood of his wound flowed onto the floor of the chariot.H4421H5927H3117H4428H5975H4818H5227H758H4191H6153H1818H3332H4347H2436H7393 36And there went a cry throughout the army about sundown, saying, Every man to his city and his own country,H5674H7440H4264H935H8121H559H376H5892H376H776 37For the king is dead! And [Ahab] was brought to Samaria, where they buried him.H4428H4191H935H8111H6912H4428H8111 38And they washed [his] chariot by the pool of Samaria, where the harlots bathed, and the dogs licked up his blood, as the Lord had predicted.H7857H7393H1295H8111H3611H3952H1818H7364H2185H1697H3068H1696 39The rest of Ahab's acts, all he did, the ivory palace and all the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?H3499H1697H256H6213H8127H1004H1129H5892H1129H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H3478 40So Ahab slept with his fathers. Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.H256H7901H1H274H1121H4427

The New Rulers

41Jehoshaphat son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.H3092H1121H609H4427H3063H702H8141H256H4428H3478 42Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. However, the [idolatrous] high places were not taken away; for the people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.H3212H1870H609H1H5493H6213H3477H5869H3068H1116H5493H5971H2076H6999H1116 44And Jehoshaphat made peace with Israel's king.H3092H7999H4428H3478 45The rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, his might that he showed and how he warred, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?H3499H1697H3092H1369H6213H3898H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H3063 46And the remnant of the sodomites (the male cult prostitutes) who remained in the days of his father Asa, [Jehoshaphat] expelled from the country.H3499H6945H7604H3117H1H609H1197H776 47There was no king in Edom; a deputy was acting king.H4428H123H5324H4428 48Jehoshaphat ordered ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion-geber.H3092H6213H6240H591H8659H3212H211H2091H1980H591H7665H6100 49When Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships, Jehoshaphat refused.H559H274H1121H256H3092H5650H3212H5650H591H3092H14 50Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of David his father [forefather]. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.H3092H7901H1H6912H1H5892H1732H1H3088H1121H4427 51Ahaziah son of Ahab began his two-year reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.H274H1121H256H4427H3478H8111H7651H6240H8141H3092H4428H3063H4427H8141H3478 52He did evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the ways of his father [Ahab] and of his mother [Jezebel] and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin.H6213H7451H5869H3068H3212H1870H1H1870H517H1870H3379H1121H5028H3478H2398 53He served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger in all the ways his father had done.H5647H1168H7812H3707H3068H430H3478H1H6213
