1Samuel 22

David’s Four Hundred Men

22David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.H1732H3212H4422H4631H5725H251H1H1004H8085H33812And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.H376H4689H376H5378H376H4751H5315H6908H8269H702H3967H3763Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and mother come here with you, till I know what God will do for me."H1732H3212H4708H4124H559H4428H4124H1H517H3318H3045H430H62134So he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.H5148H6440H4428H4124H3427H3117H1732H46865Now the prophet Gad said to David, "Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go to the land of Judah." So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.H5030H1410H559H1732H3427H4686H3212H935H776H3063H1732H3212H935H3293H2802

Saul Murders the Priests

6When Saul heard that David and the men who were with him had been discovered—now Saul was staying in Gibeah under a tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants standing about him—H7586H8085H1732H3045H582H7586H3427H1390H815H7414H2595H3027H5650H53247then Saul said to his servants who stood about him, "Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds?H7586H559H5650H5324H8085H1145H1121H3448H5414H7704H3754H7760H8269H505H8269H39678"All of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who reveals to me that my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse; and there is not one of you who is sorry for me or reveals to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day."H7194H1540H241H1121H3772H1121H3448H2470H1540H241H1121H6965H5650H693H31179Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, "I saw the son of Jesse going to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.H6030H1673H130H5324H5650H7586H559H7200H1121H3448H935H5011H288H1121H28510"And he inquired of the LORD for him, gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine."H7592H3068H5414H6720H5414H2719H1555H643011So the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were in Nob. And they all came to the king.H4428H7971H7121H288H3548H1121H285H1H1004H3548H5011H935H442812And Saul said, "Hear now, son of Ahitub!" And he answered, "Here I am, my lord."H7586H559H8085H1121H285H559H11313Then Saul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day?"H7586H559H7194H1121H3448H5414H3899H2719H7592H430H6965H693H311714So Ahimelech answered the king and said, "And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, who goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house?H288H6030H4428H559H539H5650H1732H4428H2860H5493H4928H3513H100415"Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? Far be it from me! Let not the king impute anything to his servant, or to any in the house of my father. For your servant knew nothing of all this, little or much."H3117H2490H7592H430H2486H4428H7760H1697H5650H1004H1H5650H3045H1697H6996H141916And the king said, "You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father's house!"H4428H559H4191H4191H288H1H100417Then the king said to the guards who stood about him, "Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled and did not tell it to me." But the servants of the king would not lift their hands to strike the priests of the LORD.H4428H559H7323H5324H5437H4191H3548H3068H3027H1732H3045H1272H1540H241H5650H4428H14H7971H3027H6293H3548H306818And the king said to Doeg, "You turn and kill the priests!" So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck the priests, and killed on that day eighty-five men who wore a linen ephod.H4428H559H1673H5437H6293H3548H1673H130H5437H6293H3548H4191H3117H8084H2568H376H5375H906H64619Also Nob, the city of the priests, he struck with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, oxen and donkeys and sheep—with the edge of the sword.H5011H5892H3548H5221H6310H2719H376H802H5768H3243H7794H2543H7716H6310H271920Now one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.H259H1121H288H1121H285H8034H54H4422H1272H310H173221And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the LORD'S priests.H54H5046H1732H7586H2026H3068H354822So David said to Abiathar, "I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have caused the death of all the persons of your father's house.H1732H559H54H3045H3117H1673H130H5046H5046H7586H5437H5315H1H100423"Stay with me; do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you shall be safe."H3427H3372H1245H5315H1245H5315H4931

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
