1Samuel 30

David’s Victory over the Amalekites

30NOW WHEN David and his men came home to Ziklag on the third day, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid on the South (the Negeb) and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,H1732H582H935H6860H7992H3117H6003H6584H5045H6860H5221H6860H8313H7842And had taken the women and all who were there, both great and small, captive. They killed no one, but carried them off and went on their way.H802H7617H4191H376H1419H6996H5090H3212H18703So David and his men came to the town, and behold, it was burned, and their wives and sons and daughters were taken captive.H1732H582H935H5892H8313H784H802H1121H1323H76174Then David and the men with him lifted up their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep.H1732H5971H5375H6963H1058H3581H10585David's two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail, the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.H1732H8147H802H7617H293H3159H26H802H5037H37616David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged {and} strengthened himself in the Lord his God.H1732H3966H3334H5971H559H5619H5315H5971H4843H376H1121H1323H1732H2388H3068H4307David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray you, bring me the ephod. And Abiathar brought him the ephod.H1732H559H54H3548H288H1121H5066H646H54H5066H646H17328And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? The Lord answered him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.H1732H7592H3068H559H7291H310H1416H5381H559H7291H5381H5381H5337H53379So David went, he and the 600 men with him, and came to the brook Besor; there those remained who were left behind.H1732H3212H8337H3967H376H935H5158H1308H3498H597510But David pursued, he and 400 men, for 200 stayed behind who were too exhausted {and} faint to cross the brook Besor.H1732H7291H702H3967H376H3967H5975H6296H5674H5158H130811They found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David, and gave him bread and he ate, and water to drink,H4672H376H4713H7704H3947H1732H5414H3899H398H8248H432512And a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins; and when he had eaten, his spirit returned to him, for he had eaten no food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.H5414H6400H1690H8147H6778H398H7307H7725H398H3899H8354H4325H7969H3117H7969H391513And David said to him, To whom do you belong? And from where have you come? He said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me because three days ago I fell sick.H1732H559H559H5288H4713H5650H376H6003H113H5800H7969H3117H247014We had made a raid on the South (Negeb) of the Cherethites and upon that which belongs to Judah and upon the South (Negeb) of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag with fire.H6584H5045H3774H3063H5045H3612H8313H6860H78415And David said to him, Can you take me down to this band? And he said, Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this band.H1732H559H3381H1416H559H7650H430H4191H518H5462H3027H113H3381H141616And when he had brought David down, behold, the raiders were spread abroad over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing because of all the great spoil they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.H3381H5203H6440H776H398H8354H2287H1419H7998H3947H776H6430H776H306317And David smote them from twilight even to the evening of the next day, and not a man of them escaped, except 400 youths who rode camels and fled.H1732H5221H5399H6153H4283H4422H376H702H3967H5288H376H7392H1581H512718David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken and rescued his two wives.H1732H5337H6002H3947H1732H5337H8147H80219Nothing was missing, small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken; David recovered all.H5737H4480H6996H1419H1121H1323H7998H3947H1732H772520Also David captured all the flocks and herds [which the enemy had], and the people drove those animals before him and said, This is David's spoil.H1732H3947H6629H1241H5090H6440H1931H4735H559H1732H7998

The Spoils Are Divided

21And David came to the 200 men who were so exhausted {and} faint that they could not follow [him] and had been left at the brook Besor [with the baggage]. They came to meet David and those with him, and when he came near to the men, he saluted them.H1732H935H3967H582H6296H3212H310H1732H3427H5158H1308H3318H7125H1732H7125H5971H1732H5066H5971H7592H796522Then all the wicked and base men who went with David said, Because they did not go with us, we will give them nothing of the spoil we have recovered, except that every man may lead away his wife and children and depart.H6030H7451H376H1100H582H1980H1732H559H1980H5414H7998H5337H376H802H1121H5090H321223David said, You shall not do so, my brethren, with what the Lord has given us. He has preserved us and has delivered into our hands the troop that came against us.H559H1732H6213H251H3068H5414H8104H5414H1416H935H302724Who would listen to you in this matter? For as is the share of him who goes into the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage. They shall share alike.H8085H1697H2506H3381H3381H4421H2506H3427H3627H2505H316225And from that day to this he made it a statute and ordinance for Israel.H3117H4605H7760H2706H4941H3478H311726When David came to Ziklag, he sent part of the spoil to the elders of Judah, his friends, saying, Here is a gift for you of the spoil of the enemies of the Lord:H1732H935H6860H7971H7998H2205H3063H7453H559H1293H7998H341H306827For those in Bethel, Ramoth of the Negeb, Jattir,H834H1008H5045H7418H349228Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa,H6177H8224H85129Racal, the cities of the Jerahmeelites, the cities of the Kenites,H7403H5892H3397H5892H701730Hormah, Bor-ashan, Athach,H2767H3565H626931Hebron, and for those in all the places David and his men had habitually haunted.H2275H4725H1732H582H1980

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
