1Samuel 30

David’s Wives Are Captured

30Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fireH1732H582H935H6860H7992H3117H6003H6584H5045H6860H5221H6860H8313H7842and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way.H802H7617H4191H376H1419H6996H5090H3212H18703And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.H1732H582H935H5892H8313H784H802H1121H1323H76174Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep.H1732H5971H5375H6963H1058H3581H10585David's two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel.H1732H8147H802H7617H293H3159H26H802H5037H37616And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.H1732H3966H3334H5971H559H5619H5315H5971H4843H376H1121H1323H1732H2388H3068H4307And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.H1732H559H54H3548H288H1121H5066H646H54H5066H646H17328And David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?" He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue."H1732H7592H3068H559H7291H310H1416H5381H559H7291H5381H5381H5337H53379So David set out, and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.H1732H3212H8337H3967H376H935H5158H1308H3498H597510But David pursued, he and four hundred men. Two hundred stayed behind, who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor.H1732H7291H702H3967H376H3967H5975H6296H5674H5158H130811They found an Egyptian in the open country and brought him to David. And they gave him bread and he ate. They gave him water to drink,H4672H376H4713H7704H3947H1732H5414H3899H398H8248H432512and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. And when he had eaten, his spirit revived, for he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.H5414H6400H1690H8147H6778H398H7307H7725H398H3899H8354H4325H7969H3117H7969H391513And David said to him, "To whom do you belong? And where are you from?" He said, "I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite, and my master left me behind because I fell sick three days ago.H1732H559H559H5288H4713H5650H376H6003H113H5800H7969H3117H247014We had made a raid against the Negeb of the Cherethites and against that which belongs to Judah and against the Negeb of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag with fire."H6584H5045H3774H3063H5045H3612H8313H6860H78415And David said to him, "Will you take me down to this band?" And he said, "Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to this band."H1732H559H3381H1416H559H7650H430H4191H518H5462H3027H113H3381H1416

David Defeats the Amalekites

16And when he had taken him down, behold, they were spread abroad over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing, because of all the great spoil they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.H3381H5203H6440H776H398H8354H2287H1419H7998H3947H776H6430H776H306317And David struck them down from twilight until the evening of the next day, and not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who mounted camels and fled.H1732H5221H5399H6153H4283H4422H376H702H3967H5288H376H7392H1581H512718David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.H1732H5337H6002H3947H1732H5337H8147H80219Nothing was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken. David brought back all.H5737H4480H6996H1419H1121H1323H7998H3947H1732H772520David also captured all the flocks and herds, and the people drove the livestock before him, and said, "This is David's spoil."H1732H3947H6629H1241H5090H6440H1931H4735H559H1732H799821Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow David, and who had been left at the brook Besor. And they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him. And when David came near to the people he greeted them.H1732H935H3967H582H6296H3212H310H1732H3427H5158H1308H3318H7125H1732H7125H5971H1732H5066H5971H7592H796522Then all the wicked and worthless fellows among the men who had gone with David said, "Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except that each man may lead away his wife and children, and depart."H6030H7451H376H1100H582H1980H1732H559H1980H5414H7998H5337H376H802H1121H5090H321223But David said, "You shall not do so, my brothers, with what the LORD has given us. He has preserved us and given into our hand the band that came against us.H559H1732H6213H251H3068H5414H8104H5414H1416H935H302724Who would listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down into the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage. They shall share alike."H8085H1697H2506H3381H3381H4421H2506H3427H3627H2505H316225And he made it a statute and a rule for Israel from that day forward to this day.H3117H4605H7760H2706H4941H3478H311726When David came to Ziklag, he sent part of the spoil to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, "Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the LORD."H1732H935H6860H7971H7998H2205H3063H7453H559H1293H7998H341H306827It was for those in Bethel, in Ramoth of the Negeb, in Jattir,H834H1008H5045H7418H349228in Aroer, in Siphmoth, in Eshtemoa,H6177H8224H85129in Racal, in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, in the cities of the Kenites,H7403H5892H3397H5892H701730in Hormah, in Bor-ashan, in Athach,H2767H3565H626931in Hebron, for all the places where David and his men had roamed.H2275H4725H1732H582H1980

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
