Elisha and the Widow’s Oil

4Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves."H6817H259H802H802H1121H5030H477H559H5650H376H4191H3045H5650H3373H3068H5383H935H3947H8147H3206H5650 2And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil."H477H559H6213H5046H3426H1004H559H8198H1004H610H8081 3Then he said, "Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.H559H3212H7592H3627H2351H7934H7386H3627H4591 4Then go in and shut the door behind yourself and your sons and pour into all these vessels. And when one is full, set it aside."H935H5462H1817H1121H3332H3627H5265H4392 5So she went from him and shut the door behind herself and her sons. And as she poured they brought the vessels to her.H3212H5462H1817H1157H1121H1992H5066H3332 6When the vessels were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another." Then the oil stopped flowing.H3627H4390H559H1121H5066H3627H559H3627H8081H5975 7She came and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest."H935H5046H376H430H559H3212H4376H8081H7999H5386H2421H1121H3498

Elisha and the Shunammite Woman

8One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.H3117H477H5674H7766H1419H802H2388H398H3899H1767H5674H5493H398H3899 9And she said to her husband, "Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way.H559H376H3045H6918H376H430H5674H8548 10Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there."H6213H6996H5944H7023H7760H4296H7979H3678H4501H935H5493 11One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there.H3117H935H5493H5944H7901 12And he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.H559H1522H5288H7121H7767H7121H5975H6440 13And he said to him, "Say now to her, 'See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."H559H559H2729H2731H6213H3426H1696H4428H8269H6635H559H3427H8432H5971 14And he said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Well, she has no son, and her husband is old."H559H6213H1522H559H61H1121H376H2204 15He said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway.H559H7121H7121H5975H6607 16And he said, "At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant."H559H4150H6256H2416H2263H1121H559H113H376H430H3576H8198 17But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her.H802H2029H3205H1121H4150H477H1696H6256H2416

Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son

18When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.H3206H1431H3117H3318H1H7114 19And he said to his father, "Oh, my head, my head!" The father said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."H559H1H7218H7218H559H5288H5375H517 20And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died.H5375H935H517H3427H1290H6672H4191 21And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out.H5927H7901H4296H376H430H5462H3318 22Then she called to her husband and said, "Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may quickly go to the man of God and come back again."H7121H376H559H7971H259H5288H259H860H7323H376H430H7725 23And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath." She said, "All is well."H559H1980H3117H2320H7676H559H7965 24Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant, "Urge the animal on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you."H2280H860H559H5288H5090H3212H6113H7392H559 25So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, there is the Shunammite.H3212H935H376H430H2022H3760H376H430H7200H559H1522H5288H1975H7767 26Run at once to meet her and say to her, 'Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?'" And she answered, "All is well."H7323H7125H559H7965H7965H376H7965H3206H559H7965 27And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to push her away. But the man of God said, "Leave her alone, for she is in bitter distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me."H935H376H430H2022H2388H7272H1522H5066H1920H376H430H559H7503H5315H4843H3068H5956H5046 28Then she said, "Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me?'"H559H7592H1121H113H559H7952 29He said to Gehazi, "Tie up your garment and take my staff in your hand and go. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not reply. And lay my staff on the face of the child."H559H1522H2296H4975H3947H4938H3027H3212H4672H376H1288H376H1288H6030H7760H4938H6440H5288 30Then the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her.H517H5288H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H6965H3212H310 31Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him and told him, "The child has not awakened."H1522H5674H6440H7760H4938H6440H5288H6963H7182H7725H7125H5046H559H5288H6974 32When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed.H477H935H1004H5288H4191H7901H4296 33So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the LORD.H935H5462H1817H8147H6419H3068 34Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm.H5927H7901H3206H7760H6310H6310H5869H5869H3709H3709H1457H1320H3206H2552 35Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house, and went up and stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.H7725H3212H1004H259H2008H259H2008H5927H1457H5288H2237H7651H6471H5288H6491H5869 36Then he summoned Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite." So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, "Pick up your son."H7121H1522H559H7121H7767H7121H935H559H5375H1121 37She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground. Then she picked up her son and went out.H935H5307H7272H7812H776H5375H1121H3318

Elisha Purifies the Deadly Stew

38And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, "Set on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."H477H7725H1537H7458H776H1121H5030H3427H6440H559H5288H8239H1419H5518H1310H5138H1121H5030 39One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, not knowing what they were.H259H3318H7704H3950H219H4672H7704H1612H3950H7704H6498H899H4393H935H6398H5518H5138H3045 40And they poured out some for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the stew, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.H3332H582H398H398H5138H6817H559H376H430H4194H5518H3201H398 41He said, "Then bring flour." And he threw it into the pot and said, "Pour some out for the men, that they may eat." And there was no harm in the pot.H559H3947H7058H7993H5518H559H3332H5971H398H1697H7451H5518 42A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, "Give to the men, that they may eat."H935H376H1190H935H376H430H3899H1061H6242H3899H8184H3759H6861H559H5414H5971H398 43But his servant said, "How can I set this before a hundred men?" So he repeated, "Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left.'"H8334H559H5414H6440H3967H376H559H5414H5971H398H559H3068H398H3498 44So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the LORD.H5414H6440H398H3498H1697H3068
