Ammon and Aram Defeated

10Now it happened afterwards that the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son became king in his place.H310H4428H1121H5983H4191H2586H1121H4427 2Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent some of his servants to console him concerning his father. But when David's servants came to the land of the Ammonites,H559H1732H6213H2617H2586H1121H5176H1H6213H2617H1732H7971H5162H3027H5650H1H1732H5650H935H776H1121H5983 3the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, "Do you think that David is honoring your father because he has sent consolers to you? Has David not sent his servants to you in order to search the city, to spy it out and overthrow it?"H8269H1121H5983H559H2586H113H5869H1732H3513H1H7971H5162H1732H7971H5650H5668H2713H5892H7270H2015 4So Hanun took David's servants and shaved off half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle as far as their hips, and sent them away.H2586H3947H1732H5650H1548H2677H2206H3772H4063H2677H8357H7971 5When they told [it] to David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly humiliated. And the king said, "Stay at Jericho until your beards grow, and [then] return."H5046H1732H7971H7125H582H3966H3637H4428H559H3427H3405H2206H6779H7725 6Now when the sons of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the sons of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob and the Arameans of Zobah, 200000 foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with 10000 men, and the men of Tob with 120000 men.H1121H5983H7200H887H1732H1121H5983H7971H7936H758H1050H758H6678H6242H505H7273H4428H4601H505H376H382H6240H8147H505H376 7When David heard [of it,] he sent Joab and all the army, the mighty men.H1732H8085H7971H3097H6635H1368 8And the sons of Ammon came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the city, while the Arameans of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah [were] by themselves in the field.H1121H5983H3318H4421H6186H6607H8179H758H6678H7340H382H4601H905H7704 9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him in front and in the rear, he selected from all the choice men of Israel, and arrayed [ them] against the Arameans.H3097H7200H6440H4421H6440H268H977H977H3478H6186H7125H758 10But the remainder of the people he placed in the hand of Abishai his brother, and he arrayed [them] against the sons of Ammon.H3499H5971H5414H3027H52H251H6186H7125H1121H5983 11And he said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the sons of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come to help you.H559H758H2388H3444H1121H5983H2388H1980H3467 12"Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God; and may the LORD do what is good in His sight."H2388H2388H5971H5892H430H3068H6213H5869H2896 13So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Arameans, and they fled before him.H3097H5066H5971H4421H758H5127H6440 14When the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans fled, they [also] fled before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from [fighting] against the sons of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.H1121H5983H7200H758H5127H5127H6440H52H935H5892H3097H7725H1121H5983H935H3389 15When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.H758H7200H5062H6440H3478H622H3162 16And Hadadezer sent and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the River, and they came to Helam; and Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer led them.H1928H7971H3318H758H5676H5104H935H2431H7731H8269H6635H1928H6440 17Now when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans arrayed themselves to meet David and fought against him.H5046H1732H622H3478H622H5674H3383H935H2431H758H6186H7125H1732H3898 18But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed 700 charioteers of the Arameans and 400000 horsemen and struck down Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there.H758H5127H6440H3478H1732H2026H7651H3967H7393H758H705H505H6571H5221H7731H8269H6635H4191 19When all the kings, servants of Hadadezer, saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Arameans feared to help the sons of Ammon anymore.H4428H5650H1928H7200H5062H6440H3478H7999H3478H5647H758H3372H3467H1121H5983
