1In my first bookc I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teachG3303G4413G3056G4160G5599G2321G4012G3956G3739G2424G756G5037G4160G2532G13212until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit.G891G2250G3739G353G1223G40G4151G1781G652G3739G15863During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.G3739G2532G3936G1438G2198G3326G846G3958G1722G4183G5039G3700G846G1223G5062G2250G2532G3004G4012G932G23164Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before.G2532G4871G846G3853G846G5563G3361G5563G575G2414G235G4037G1860G3962G3739G191G34505John baptized withc water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."G3754G2491G3303G907G5204G1161G5210G907G1722G40G4151G3756G3326G4183G2250G5025

The Ascension of Jesus

6So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?"G3303G3767G4905G1905G846G3004G2962G1487G600G1722G5129G5550G600G932G24747He replied, "The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.G1161G2036G4314G846G2076G3756G5216G1097G5550G2228G2540G3739G3962G5087G1722G2398G18498But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."G235G2983G1411G40G4151G1904G1909G5209G2532G2071G3144G3427G5037G1722G2419G2532G1722G3956G2449G2532G4540G2532G2193G2078G10939After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.G2532G2036G5023G846G991G1869G2532G3507G5274G846G575G846G378810As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them.G2532G5613G2258G816G1519G3772G846G4198G2532G2400G1417G435G3936G846G1722G3022G206611"Men of Galilee," they said, "why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!"G3739G2532G2036G435G1057G5101G2476G1689G1519G3772G3778G2424G3588G353G575G5216G1519G3772G2064G3779G2064G3739G5158G2300G846G4198G1519G3772

12Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a milec.G5119G5290G1519G2419G575G3735G2564G1638G3739G2076G1451G2419G4521G2192G359813When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the Zealot), and Judas (son of James).G2532G3753G1525G305G1519G5253G3757G2258G2650G5037G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G406G5376G2532G2381G918G2532G3156G2385G256G2532G4613G2208G2532G2455G238514They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.G3778G3956G2258G4342G3661G4335G2532G1162G4862G1135G2532G3137G3384G2424G2532G4862G846G8015During this time, when about 120 believersc were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them.G2532G1722G5025G2250G4074G450G1722G3319G3101G2036G5037G3793G3686G1909G846G2258G5613G1540G150116"Brothers," he said, "the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by the Holy Spirit, speaking through King David.G435G80G5026G1124G1163G4137G3739G40G4151G1223G4750G1138G4277G4012G2455G3588G1096G3595G4815G242417Judas was one of us and shared in the ministry with us."G3754G2258G2674G4862G2254G2532G2975G2819G5026G124818(Judas had bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
